Episcopal Diocese Of Taiwan
The Episcopal Diocese of Taiwan ( zh, t=臺灣聖公會, s=台湾圣公会, first=t, l=Episcopal Church of Taiwan) is the Anglican diocese in Taiwan and a member diocese of the Episcopal Church of the United States. It was established in 1954, five years after Chinese Episcopalians fled from mainland China to Taiwan following the Chinese Communist Revolution in 1949. Early leadership included American military chaplains connected to The Church of the Good Shepherd or St. John's, but in 1965 the Diocese elected its first Chinese bishop. In late 2019 Lennon Yuan-Jung Chang was elected the sixth Bishop of Taiwan, and was consecrated on February 22, 2020. It is a diocese of Province 8 of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. Episcopal Church (United States)
The Episcopal Church, based in the United States with additional dioceses elsewhere, is a member church of the worldwide Anglican Communion. It is a mainline Protestant denomination and is divided into nine provinces. The presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church is Michael Bruce Curry, the first African-American bishop to serve in that position. As of 2022, the Episcopal Church had 1,678,157 members, of whom the majority were in the United States. it was the nation's 14th largest denomination. Keelung City
Keelung () or Jilong () (; Hokkien POJ: '), officially known as Keelung City, is a major port city situated in the northeastern part of Taiwan. The city is a part of the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area, along with its neighbors, New Taipei City and Taipei, respectively. Nicknamed the ''Rainy Port'' for its frequent rain and maritime role, the city is Taiwan's second largest seaport (after Kaohsiung). James Pong
James Tak-Ming Pong (; also Te-Ming; September 19, 1911October 16, 1988) was an Hongkongese Episcopalian bishop who served as the fourth bishop (second bishop of Chinese descent) of the Episcopal Diocese of Taiwan. Pong was born in Hong Kong, where his father was a compradore for Jardine and Blue Funnel Line ships and his mother was a shopkeeper. At a young age, Pong moved with his family to his father's hometown in Beihai, where he resided from 1916 to 1920. His family later returned to Hong Kong, where he attended St Paul's College. He went on to attend St John's University in Shanghai, majoring in History and Government. The Bishop of Sabah is an Anglican prelate who oversees the Diocese of Sabah in the Church of the Province of South East Asia. Pingtung City (; Hokkien Pe̍h-ōe-jī, POJ: ''Pîn-tong-chhī'') is a county-administered city and the county seat of Pingtung County, Taiwan. History The area of modern-day Pingtung City was originally a village of the Taiwanese Plains Aborigines which they called "Akau", which means "the forest". Sanmin District
Sanmin District () is a district of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History During the Ming dynasty, the Wang, Tsai, and Cheng families built houses in the area to farm the land. The area was thus named ''Sankuaicu'' (). After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China, the area was renamed Sanmin to set a good example. Gangshan District
Gangshan District (, Hakka: Kông-sân-khî), is a suburban district in Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan. It has 95,128 inhabitants in 2022. The township is part of the suburbs of Kaohsiung City which encompass 10 cities (or townships) out of 18 in the official Kaohsiung Metro Area.
