Episcopal Conferences Of Eastern Africa
The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) is the association of episcopal conferences of Eastern Africa and the coordinating body of the Catholic dioceses. The AMECEA was established in 1961, with Cardinal Archbishop of Lusaka Adam Kozlowiecki, SJ, its founding president. It is one of ten members of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar(SECAM). Members of the AMECEA include the episcopal conferences of Ethiopia (1979), Eritrea (1993), Kenya (1961), Malawi (1961), Tanzania (1961), Zambia (1961), Sudan (1979), Uganda (1961). Somalia (1995) and Djibouti (2002) have observer status. The current chairman is Most Rev Charles Joseph Sampa Kasonde (since July 21, 2018). East Africa, Eastern Africa, or East of Africa, is the eastern subregion of the African continent. In the United Nations Statistics Division scheme of geographic regions, 10-11-(16*) territories make up Eastern Africa: Due to the historical Omani Empire and colonial territories of the British East Africa Protectorate and German East Africa, the term ''East Africa'' is often (especially in the English language) used to specifically refer to the area now comprising the three countries of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Emmanuel Wamala
Emmanuel Wamala (born 15 December 1926) is a Ugandan cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, and former Archbishop of Kampala from 1990 to 2006. He is currently serving as the Cardinal-Priest of Sant'Ugo, appointed in 1994. Priesthood Wamala was born in Kamaggwa parish of Lwaggulwe Masaka district, Uganda. He was ordained, on 21 December 1957, chapel of the Pontifical Collegio Urbaniano, Rome, by Pietro Sigismondi. In the same ceremony Stephen Fumio Hamao, future cardinal, was also ordained. He studied in Rome from 1957 to 1960 and had further studies in Uganda and United States, as well as pastoral ministry in the diocese of Masaka, from 1960 to 1981. He obtained a Bachelor of Theology. The Archdiocese of Lusaka (''Archidioecesis Lusakensis'') is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Zambia, where it is also considered its national primatial see. Adam Kozłowiecki
Cardinal Adam Kozłowiecki, S.J., (; 1 April 1911 – 28 September 2007) was Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Lusaka in Zambia. Biography Born in Huta Komorowska, Austria-Hungary (now part of Poland) into a noble family of Ostoja coat of arms, Kozłowiecki was ordained a Jesuit priest on 24 June 1937 after studying at the Zakład Naukowo-Wychowawczy Ojców Jezuitów w Chyrowie. In 1939 he and 24 confrères were arrested by the Gestapo in Kraków and sent to Auschwitz. Six months later he was transferred to the Dachau concentration camp, where he remained until the end of the war. After his release, the Vicar General proposed that Kozłowiecki go to Northern Rhodesia, where the Polish Jesuits had a mission. He taught there for several years until being appointed Apostolic Administrator of the new Prefecture of Lusaka in 1950.
