Epidemia
Epidemia (russian: Эпидемия, sometimes referred to as 'Epi' by fans) is a Russian power metal band famous for doing the Elven Manuscript metal opera in 2004. It was formed by guitarist Yuri "Juron" Melisov in 1993, with the first songs made in 1995. The band was once nominated for an MTV Europe Music Award. History In 1993, the as-yet unnamed group recorded the demo album ''Phoenix'', with Melisov performing both guitars and vocals. Melisov came up with the name "Epidemia" (Russian for epidemic) in 1995. Vocalist Pavel Okunev and guitarist-songwriter Roman Zakharov joined Epidemia to record the debut studio release ''Volya k Zhizni'' (Will to Live) a lo-fi EP with five tracks. The follow-up, ''Na Krayu Vremeni'' (At the Edge of Time) was the band's first full-length CD. Elven Manuscript
Elfiyskaya Rukopis' (Эльфийская Рукопись, Elven Manuscript, 2004) is a metal opera and concept album by Russian power metal band Epidemia. Vocalists from Aria, Arida Vortex, Master, Chorny Obelisk and Boney NEM participated in the opera. The album was produced by Vladimir Holstinin (Aria's guitarist), who also played the lute at track 4. Opera Scenario The scenario of the opera is an epic fantasy story, written by Yuri Melisov, lead guitarist of Epidemia. Some parts of the story are influenced by ''Dragonlance'' and ''The Lord of the Rings''. Desmond the half-elf grew up in the elven kingdom of Enia, hidden from the whole world by a magic barrier, and learned the magic from the king's wizard, Irdis. He fell in love with the princess Alatiel and was exiled by the elven king. Desmond continued his studies in the magic school of the human lands, and participated in some adventurers' campaigns. Maxim Vyacheslavovich Samosvat (russian: link=no, Максим Вячеславович Самосват; born 15 June 1981, in Moscow), is a Russian rock musician, vocalist of Mechanical Poet, (2003–2006) and Epidemia (2000–2010). Biography His first band was Orcrist, which included future members of Epidemia: Ilya Knyazev and Roman Zakharov. Early in his career has performed with groups such as the Lady Prowler, Strangers, and Travel to the Night. Mechanical Poet
Mechanical Poet was a Russian metal band formed in Moscow, Russia, in 2002, led by composer, guitarist and keyboardist Lex Plotnikoff (1977-2022). The band released concept albums in post-prog and symphonic progressive metal genres with orchestral arrangements and heavy use of keyboards. Its music is strongly influenced by film score composers like Danny Elfman, and its lyrics are based on fantasy, gothic and science fiction stories. The band split in 2009, however, Plotnikoff continued releasing his music under various new aliases until his death in 2022. Aria (russian: Ария, Ariya) is a Russian heavy metal music, heavy metal band that was formed in 1985 in Moscow. Although it was not the first Soviet band to play heavy music, Aria was the first to break through to mainstream media and commercial success. According to several public polls, Aria ranks among top 10 most popular Rock music in Russia, Russian rock bands. Their sound resembled that of NWOBHM bands, for which they were dubbed the "Russian Iron Maiden" in the media. The band has most of its lyrics written by professional poets, Margarita Pushkina and Alexander Yelin commonly, and not by its band members. Master () is a Russian thrash metal band founded in 1987 by former members of Aria. History In 1987, Alik Granovsky, Andrey Bolshakov, Kirill Pokrovsky, and Igor Molchanov left the heavy metal band Aria, due to their conflict with the producer Victor Vekshtein. Vocalist Mikhail Seryshev and guitarist Sergey Popov joined them to play live concerts. Their first self-titled release was half-completed by Aria's songs written by Granovsky and Bolshakov, but the rest of the songs were completely different in style. Master turned away from Aria's NWOBHM-like style to speed/thrash metal. The second album showcased this change, featuring hard aggressive riffs and fast tempos. Chorny Obelisk
Black Obelisk (russian: Чёрный Обелиск, ''Chorny Obelisk'') is a Russian heavy metal band founded in 1986 by bassist Anatoly Krupnov, who died in 1997. Different works and eras of band wavered their style between hard rock and thrash metal. History The original lineup consisted of Anatoly Krupnov (bass, vocals), Yuri Anisimov (guitar) Mikhail Svetlov (guitar), and Nikolay Agafoshkin (drums). After their first performance, they joined Moscow Rock-Lab. Svetlov was soon replaced with Yuri Alexeyev. With Alexeyev, the band released the tape album ''Apocalypsis'' (1987).
