Ephrem the Syrian ( syc, ܡܪܝ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܣܘܪܝܝܐ, Mār ʾAp̄rêm Sūryāyā, ; grc-koi, Ἐφραὶμ ὁ Σῦρος, Efrém o Sýros; la, Ephraem Syrus; am, ቅዱስ ኤፍሬም ሶርያዊ; ), also known as Saint Ephrem, Saint Ephraim, Ephrem of Edessa or Aprem of Nisibis, was a prominent Christian theologian and writer, who is revered as one of the most notable hymnographers of Eastern Christianity. He was born in Nisibis, served as a deacon and later lived in Edessa. Ephrem is venerated as a saint by all traditional Churches. He is especially revered in Syriac Christianity, both in East Syriac tradition and West Syriac tradition, and also counted as a Venerable Father (i.e., a sainted Monk) in the Eastern Orthodox Church. He was declared a Doctor of the Church in the Roman Catholic Church in 1920. Ephrem Mtsire
Ephrem Mtsire or Ephraim the Lesser ( ka, ეფრემ მცირე) (died c. 1101/3) was a Georgian monk at Antioch, theologian and translator of patristic literature from Greek. Information as to Ephrem’s life is scarce. Early in life he received a thorough Hellenic education presumably in Constantinople, where his purported father Vache Karich'isdze, a Georgian nobleman from Tao, had removed in 1027. Ephrem then became a monk at the Black Mountain near Antioch, which was populated by a vibrant Georgian monastic community of around 70 monks. Later in his life, c. 1091, Ephrem became a hegumen of the Kastana monastery, probably at the Castalia spring in Daphne, outside Antioch. Ephrem’s hellenophile translational technique proved to be fundamental for later Georgian literature. Ephrem M'Bom
Ephrem Marie M'Bom (18 July 1954 – 20 September 2020) was a Cameroonian professional footballer. He competed for the Cameroon national football team at the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Club career M'Bom began playing football with Rail FC of Douala in 1973 as an attacking player. He would move to left back in 1975, and play as a defender for Eclair Douala, Léoprad Douala, Canon Yaoundé and Dragon Yaoundé until he retired in 1989. Nicknamed ''Wire'' due to his slender build, he won five league titles with Canon as well as two Champions Cups and a Cup Winners Cup. International career M'Bom made several appearances for the Cameroon national football team, participating in the 1982 African Cup of Nations finals. Mar Ignatius Dionysius Ephrem II Rahmani (21 November 1848 – 7 May 1929) was Patriarch of the Syriac Catholic Church from 1898 to 1929 and a Syriac scholar. Life Ephrem Rahmani was born on 21 November 1848 (or on 9 November 1849 according to other sources) in Mosul. He studied with the Dominican friars in Mosul and later in the College of the Propaganda in Rome and was ordained priest in April 1873. Rahmani was appointed vicar to the bishop of Mosul with the titular title of bishop of Edessa and consecrated bishop on 2 October 1887 by Patriarch Ignatius George V Shelhot. On 1 May 1894 Rahmani was appointed bishop of Aleppo. After the death of Ignatius Behnam II Benni (13 September 1897) he was elected Patriarch on 9 October 1898 and confirmed by Pope Leo XIII on 28 November 1898. The Hieromartyrs of Cherson were a group of early 4th-century bishops who were martyred in Cherson, at the time in the Bosporan Kingdom in Taurica (Crimea) under the Roman client king Tiberius Julius Rhadamsades, during the Diocletian persecution (303–313). They are commemorated on March 7. The group consists of seven saints. They were not killed on one occasion, but in succession, as they were sent to Crimea by Hermon, the 38th bishop of Jerusalem (r. c. 302–314). The first two were Basil and Ephraim (''Ephrem''). Efrem Dale Hill (born July 23, 1983) is a former professional gridiron football wide receiver. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Carolina Panthers in 2005. He played college football for the Samford Bulldogs. Hill was also a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Edmonton Eskimos, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Georgia Fire.
