Ephraim Fitz-Randolph House
The Ephraim Fitz-Randolph House is a historic house located at 430 S. Randolphville Road in the Randolphville section of Piscataway in Middlesex County, New Jersey. Built in 1825, it was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1936. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 14, 1973, for its significance in architecture. With History and description Benjamin F. Randolph, originally Fitz-Randolph, emigrated from England in 1684. His son Moleson settled in Middlesex County. His son Ruene's son Ephraim, born in 1786, was the builder of the two-story frame house. Staats F. Randolph purchased it in 1858. Piscataway () is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It is a suburb of the New York metropolitan area, in the Raritan Valley. At the 2010 United States Census, the population was 56,044, an increase of 5,562 (+11.0%) from 50,482 at the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 3,393 (+7.2%) from 47,089 in 1990. The name may be derived from the area's earliest European settlers who came from near the Piscataqua River, a landmark defining the coastal border between New Hampshire and Maine, whose name derives from (branch) and (tidal river), or alternatively from (meaning "dark night") and ("place of") or from a Lenape language word meaning "great deer". Heritage Documentation Programs (HDP) is a division of the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) responsible for administering the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), and Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS). The Randolphville Bridge, also known as the South Randolphville Road Bridge over Ambrose Brook, is a historic road bridge located in the Randolphville section of the township of Piscataway in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. Completed in 1939, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1999, for its significance in engineering and transportation. History and description The two-span arch bridge was constructed from 1938 to 1939, funded by the Works Progress Administration. It carries South Randolphville Road over the Ambrose Brook. The use of ornamental stone parapet walls with decorative caps give it a rustic look.
