Ephemerisle is an annual week-long gathering that happens every July on the water in the Sacramento Delta. Several hundred attendees come together to form various "islands" made up of boats, rafts, docks, and barges. The attendees are a mix of burners, sailors, "delta rats", libertarians, and techies. Ephemerisle has no tickets and no central leadership. The one universally agreed upon rule is "no dying". Ephemerisle has been called Burning Man on the Water, but there is no official connection between the two events. Patri Friedman
Patri Friedman (born July 29, 1976) is an American libertarian, neoreactionary, anarcho-capitalist, and theorist of political economy. He founded The Seasteading Institute, a non-profit that explores the creation of sovereign ocean colonies. Early life Named after family friend Patri Pugliese, Friedman grew up in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and is a graduate of Upper Merion Area High School, class of 1994, where he went by the name Patri Forwalter-Friedman. He graduated from Harvey Mudd College in 1998, and went on to Stanford University to obtain his master's degree in computer science. The Seasteading Institute (TSI) is a 501(c)(3) organization, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed to facilitate the establishment of autonomous, mobile communities on seaborne platforms operating in international waters (a proposed practice called seasteading). It was founded by Wayne Gramlich and Patri Friedman on April 15, 2008. Friedman and Gramlich noted that according to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, a country's Exclusive Economic Zone extends from shore. "Chicken" John Joseph James Rinaldi (born 1967 or 1968) is a musician, showman, activist, and author living in San Francisco, California. He is involved with the San Francisco arts community as well as the Burning Man community. The Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, or California Delta, is an expansive inland river delta and estuary in Northern California.
