Epes Randolph
Epes Randolph (August 16, 1856 – August 22, 1921) was an American civil engineer and businessman who constructed railroads in America's South, Ohio, Arizona, California, and Mexico. From 1905 to 1907 he led the successful effort to restore the Colorado River to its banks after irrigation canal construction and flooding diverted it from the Gulf of California and into California's Imperial Valley, creating the Salton Sea. Randolph spent his later life in Tucson, Arizona where he served as president of several railroads, as vice-president of Tucson's Consolidated National Bank, and as chancellor of the University of Arizona Board of Regents. Epes Sargent (poet)
Epes Sargent (September 27, 1813– December 30, 1880) was an American editor, poet and playwright. Early life Epes Sargent was the son of Epes Sargent (1784–1853) and Hannah Dane Coffin (1787–1819), and was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on September 27, 1813, where his father was a ship master. In 1818 the family moved to Roxbury, Massachusetts. From 1823 to 1829 he attended the Boston Latin School, but his education was put on hold while he traveled for six months to Saint Petersburg, Russia with his father. Upon his return he helped start the school's first literary journal, where he wrote about his travels to Russia. He then attended Harvard University where he contributed to the ''Harvard Collegian'', a college literary journal which was started by his older brother, John Osborn Sargent (1811–1891), who became a successful politician and journalist. Epes Sargent (July 12, 1690 – December 6, 1762) was an American soldier and landowner from Gloucester, Massachusetts. Early life and family Sargent was born on July 12, 1690 in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He was the seventh of fifteen children born to William Sargent II (1659–1707), who came to Gloucester before 1678, and Mary Duncan (d. 1724),Emma Worcester Sargent and Charles Sprague Sargent. Sidney Parham Epes
Sydney Parham Epes (August 20, 1865 – March 3, 1900) was a U.S. Representative from Virginia, cousin of James F. Epes and William Bacon Oliver. Biography Born near Nottoway Court House, Virginia, Epes moved with his parents to Kentucky and settled near Franklin, Kentucky, where he attended the public schools. He returned to Virginia in 1884 and edited and published a Democratic newspaper at Blackstone, Virginia. He served as member of the Virginia House of Delegates in 1891 and 1892. He served as register of the Virginia land office from 1895 to 1897, and presented credentials as a Member-elect to the Fifty-fifth Congress and served from March 4, 1897, until March 23, 1898, when he was succeeded by Robert T. Thorp, who contested the election. Epes was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth Congress and served from March 4, 1899, until his death from peritonitis in Washington, D.C., March 3, 1900.
