Brigadier-General Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, (born 5 July 1941) (often referred to as ''Na Turaga Mai Naisogolaca'') is a Fijian chief who was President of Fiji from 2009 to 2015. He has had a long career in the Military, diplomatic service, and government. From 2001 to 2006 he served as Speaker of the House of Representatives – the lower and more powerful chamber of the Fijian Parliament. He was also the chairman of the Parliamentary Appropriations Committee and of the House Committee. Ratu Epeli Nailatikau I (1842 - 1901) was a Fijian Paramount Chief, who was posthumously made the Vunivalu of Bau. He was the eldest son of the first Tui Viti, Ratu Seru Epenisa Cakobau and his first wife, Adi Litia Samanunu, daughter of the Roko Tui Bau. He acted as his father's right-hand man in the Bauan struggles for power, and was subsequently made a governor of many of the Fijian states, (including being made the Roko Tui Tailevu) and a minister in various early portfolios. He was also a signatory to the 1874 Deed of Cession to Great Britain ''(see Fiji's Cession to Great Britain)''. Epeli Naituivau (born 22 May 1962) is a Fijian former rugby union footballer, who played as prop. He is one of the eight members of the country's armed forces to play for Fiji in a Rugby World Cup squad, alongside Koli Rakoroi, Elia Rokowailoa, Rusiate Namoro, Tom Mitchell, Alifereti Dere and Setareki Tawake. Career Naituivau debuted for Fiji against Tonga, at Nuku'alofa, on 24 March 1990. He called in the 1991 Rugby World Cup squad, where he played against Romania and Canada, as well in the 1999 Rugby World Cup squad, where he played against Namibia and England, the latter being his last international cap. Ratu Epeli Niudamu is a Fijian Chief, soldier, and former political leader. The Paramount Chief of one of the four tikinas (districts) of Ra Province, he holds the title of '' Tui Nalawa''. From 1996 to 2006, he represented the Province of Ra in the Senate as a nominee of the Great Council of Chiefs. He was formerly a member of the GCC, but was forced to give up his membership when he was nominated to the Senate. In his military career, Niudamu served with Fijian soldiers serving with peacekeeping forces in Lebanon. In September 2017 he was convicted, along with 13 other people, of sedition for attempting to form a breakaway Christian state. He was given a two year suspended sentence.
