Epaphroditinae is a subfamily of praying mantids in the Epaphroditidae: previously placed in the family Hymenopodidae and now containing two monotypic tribes. The type genus remains ''Epaphrodita'' (Serville, 1831). Epaphroditidae
Epaphroditidae is a family of the Mantodea, containing species found in Africa and the Caribbean. Before 2015, it had been placed as the subfamily Epaphroditinae, in the Hymenopodidae, but is now excluded. Mantodea
Mantises are an order (Mantodea) of insects that contains over 2,400 species in about 460 genera in 33 families. The largest family is the Mantidae ("mantids"). Mantises are distributed worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. They have triangular heads with bulging eyes supported on flexible necks. Their elongated bodies may or may not have wings, but all Mantodea have forelegs that are greatly enlarged and adapted for catching and gripping prey; their upright posture, while remaining stationary with forearms folded, has led to the common name praying mantis. In biology, a tribe is a taxonomic rank above genus, but below family and subfamily. It is sometimes subdivided into subtribes. The new placement is as a sole family in the superfamily Chroicopteroidea (of group Cernomantodea) and infraorder Schizomantodea. Genera in this family have been recorded from Africa and islands in the Atlantic and Indian oceans.
