Enzo Friso
Enzo Friso (born 1927) is an Italian former trade union leader. Born in Padua, Friso became a metal worker and, in 1945, when trade unions were re-legalised, he joined the Italian General Confederation of Labour. In 1954, he began working full-time for the union as its secretary for the Aosta Valley, then in 1960 became its provincial secretary for Pavia. He represented the union at the 1962 Congress of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), and soon afterwards began working for the ICFTU as director of its Beirut office. Eddy Laurijssen
Eddy Laurijssen (born 22 September 1945) is a Belgian former trade union official. Born in Merksem, Laurijssen studied at the Antwerp Higher School for Social Studies, and the Emile Vandervelde Foundation. He then began working for the Union of Clothing Workers and Kindred Trades in Belgium, and in 1964 moved to work for the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU). In 1972, Laurijssen was placed in charge of the ICFTU's youth work. He set up a new youth committee, and was elected as its first secretary. Bill Jordan, Baron Jordan
William Brian Jordan, Baron Jordan, (born 28 January 1936), known as Bill Jordan, is a British economist and Labour politician. The son of Walter and Alice Jordan, he was educated at the Barford Road Secondary Modern School in Birmingham. Jordan was President of the Amalgamated Engineering Union (AEU), and then its successor, the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union (AEEU), from 1986 to 1994. During the same time, he was a member of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) General Council. In 1995, he became General Secretary of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), a post he held until 2002. He was also a long-serving Governor of the London School of Economics from 1987 to 2002, and of the BBC from 1988 to 1998. John Vanderveken
John Vanderveken (born 4 February 1930) is a Belgian former trade union leader. Life Born in Antwerp, Vanderveken's family were involved in trade unionism, and were friendly with Omer Becu. They were also involved in the Belgian Resistance during World War II. In 1951, Vanderveken began working for the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), on the recommendation of Becu. From 1956, he took time out to study at Ghent University, also working for the American labour attache. Vanderveken returned to the ICFTU in 1960, working in the Economic and Social Policy Department, then in the organisation's Geneva office. He proved successful, and in 1974 won election as the confederation's assistant general secretary. In 1982, he was made acting general secretary of the ICFTU, and was elected to the post on a permanent basis in 1983.
