He first served alongside Severiano Tura from 1 April 1985 to 1 October 1985, then alongside Gianfranco Terenzi Gianfranco Terenzi (2 January 1941 – 20 May 2020) was a Sammarinese politician who served as captain regent on four occasions. The Captains Regent ( Italian: ''Capitani reggenti'') are the two heads of state of the Republic of San Marino. They are elected every six months by the Grand and General Council, the country's legislative body. Normally the Regents are chosen from opposing parties and they serve a six-month term. The investiture of the captains regent takes place on 1 April and 1 October every year. This tradition dates back at least to 1243. The practice of dual heads of government ( diarchy) is derived directly from the customs of the Roman Republic, equivalent to the consuls of ancient Rome. Gianfranco Terenzi (2 January 1941 – 20 May 2020) was a Sammarinese politician who served as captain regent on four occasions. He was a member of the Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party. His first term was with Rossano Zafferani (October 1987-April 1988). His second term was with Enzo Colombini from (October 2000-April 2001). His third term was with Loris Francini from April 2006 to October 2006. His fourth term was with Guerrino Zanotti Guerrino Zanotti (born 15 August 1964) is a Sammarinese politician who served as a Captain Regent with Gianfranco Terenzi, from October 2014 to April 2015. He is also a member of the Grand and General Council. Zanotti has been a member of the Par ... (October 2014-April 2015). Terenzi died on 20 May 2020 after being hit by a truck, aged 79.

The Sammarinese Communist Party ( it, Partito Comunista Sammarinese, abbreviated PCS) was a Marxist political party in the small European republic of San Marino. It was founded in 1921 as a section of the Communist Party of Italy (PCI). The organization existed for its first two decades as an underground political organization. Between 1945 and the spring of 1957 the PCS governed the country in coalition with the Sammarinese Socialist Party (PSS). The communist-socialist coalition lost power in the events known as ''Fatti di Rovereta''. Sammarinese Democratic Progressive Party
The Sammarinese Democratic Progressive Party (''Partito Progressista Democratico Sammarinese'', PPDS) was a democratic socialist political party in San Marino. Its Italian counterpart was the Democratic Party of the Left. The party was formed in 1990 as the successor to the Sammarinese Communist Party. In 1992 some hard-liners who did not accept the abandonment of communism left to form the Sammarinese Communist Refoundation. On 25 March 2001 the PPDS merged with two minor groups, the Ideas in Motion and the Socialists for Reform, into the Party of Democrats.
