Entrammes
Entrammes () is a commune in the Mayenne department in north-western France. It is located about west of Parné-sur-Roc and about south of Laval Entrammes Airport in Laval. History Entrammes owes its location to a major ford across the rivers Mayenne and Jouanne: the road connecting Le Mans to Rennes traditionally crossed the river here. Consequently, a substantial town covering approximately 55 hectares existed here already two thousand years ago, and was already settled during the first century BC. Roman-Gaul Baths Of Entrammes
The Roman-Gaul Baths of Entrammes (''Thermes gallo-romains d'Entrammes'' in French) is a complex of Gallo-Roman thermal baths (''thermae'') in Entrammes, Mayenne, France. The baths were partially incorporated into a church with the hypocaust surviving below the new structure. The remains were discovered in 1987. History The thermal site was discovered in 1987. Archaeological surveys were done to reassess the church of Saint-Étienne, a building which dates back to Roman times. A hypocaust in good condition was found below the church, confirming the presence of a thermal site of the 2nd century. Access and conservation Since 1 September 1988 the baths have been classified as a historical monument by the Ministry of Culture. Tours are organised by the local tourism office. The Mayenne () is a long river in western France, principally located in the French region of Pays de la Loire. Together with the river Sarthe and its tributary the Loir it forms the Maine, which is a tributary to the Loire. Geography Its source is in the department of Orne near the commune of Lalacelle, between Pré-en-Pail and Alençon. The source is in the foothills of Mont des Avaloirs at an altitude of 961 feet (293m); from there the river runs from east to west until it reaches Sept-Forges, at which point it turns to the south. After being joined by the Oudon, the Mayenne forms a confluence with the Sarthe north of Angers. The confluence of these two rivers is called the Maine, which is the local pronunciation of Mayenne.
