Enter The Vaselines
''Enter the Vaselines'' is a compilation album by the indie rock band The Vaselines, released on 5 May 2009 through the record label Sub Pop. The album is a deluxe reissue of their 1992 compilation '' The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History''. Disc one compiles all tracks from their two previous EP's (''Son of a Gun'' and ''Dying for It'') and debut LP record (''Dum-Dum'' - their only full-length release before 2010's ''Sex with an X''), in chronological order of release, with the exception of the previously unreleased track "Bitch", which is inserted after what was the fourth track on ''Dum-Dum''. Disc two includes demos and live tracks recorded in Bristol in December 1986 and London in June 1988. The mixes used of tracks 8-19 on disc one differ to the mixes used on the original ''Dum-Dum'' album and '' The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History'' compilation, having been remixed by Jamie Watson at Chamber Studios in November 2008. The Vaselines
The Vaselines are a Scottish alternative rock band. Formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1986, the band was originally a duo between its songwriters Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, but later added James Seenan and Eugene's brother Charlie Kelly on bass and drums respectively from the band Secession. McKee had formerly been a member of a band named The Pretty Flowers with Duglas T. Stewart, Norman Blake, Janice McBride and Sean Dickson. Eugene Kelly had formerly played in The Famous Monsters. History The band formed in 1986, initially as a duo backed by a drum machine. Originally intending to create a fanzine, Kelly and McKee decided to form a band instead. Stephen Pastel of The Pastels is credited with coming up with their name. "Candy"/"Molly's Lips" is a vinyl-only split-single from the American rock bands The Fluid and Nirvana. It was released in January 1991 on Sub Pop records and includes two live tracks: "Candy" by The Fluid; and "Molly's Lips", a cover of a song by The Vaselines, performed by Nirvana. Background "Candy" first appeared on The Fluid's 1990 EP, ''Glue''. The EP was re-released on CD in 1993 along with their 1989 album, ''Roadmouth''. "Molly's Lips" was recorded live on February 9, 1990, at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Michael George Farr (30 June 1941 – 18 April 1996), known professionally as Mike Leander, was a British arranger, songwriter and record producer. He worked variously with The Beatles, David McWilliams ("Days of Pearly Spencer"), Gary Glitter, the Rolling Stones, Brian Jones, Marianne Faithfull, Andrew Loog Oldham, Joe Cocker, Billy Fury, Marc Bolan, Small Faces, Van Morrison, Alan Price, Peter Frampton, Keith Richards, Shirley Bassey, Lulu, Jimmy Page, Roy Orbison, Ben E. Modern Romance (band)
Modern Romance is a British pop music band that found popularity in the early 1980s. Formed in 1980 by previous members of an earlier band, the Leyton Buzzards, the band achieved a string of UK chart hits before the original band broke up in 1985. Andy Kyriacou reformed the band in 1999 who continue to perform the band's music. Band history Geoffrey Deane and David Jaymes formed Modern Romance in 1980, having previously been the mainstays of the punk parody band the Leyton Buzzards which they formed in 1977. The band split up in 1980 though Deane and Jaymes continued working together, embracing the burgeoning electronic style of dance music that was becoming popular in London clubs at the time. Frances McKee (born 1966) is a Scottish singer and songwriter known best for her work in the Scotland, Scottish indie (music), indie band The Vaselines. Background McKee's involvement with music began as a teenager in the early 1980s when she met Duglas T. Stewart from Bellshill. With McKee and his friends Norman Blake (Scottish musician), Norman Blake and Sean Dickson (musician), Sean Dickson, Stewart formed a group, known by various outrageous names before settling on The Pretty Flowers.
