Ensemble NeoN
Ensemble neoN is a contemporary classical music ensemble. History The ensemble was founded by Julian Skar and Jan Martin Smørdal in 2008. Members Members include conductor Magnus Loddgard, dancer-soprano Silje Aker Johnsen who was awarded the 2013 Performer of the Year award by the Norwegian Society of Composers, and violinist Karin Hellqvist who was awarded the Interpreter's prize from the Swedish Society of Composers in January 2016. Awards Ensemble neoN was awarded the '' Spellemannprisen'' for their albums '' The Forester'' (2013, with Susanna Wallumrød) and ''Neon'' (2016). The ensemble was further awarded the 2017 "Performer of the year" award by the Norwegian Society of Composers. Contemporary Classical Music
Contemporary classical music is classical music composed close to the present day. At the beginning of the 21st century, it commonly referred to the post-1945 modern forms of post-tonal music after the death of Anton Webern, and included serial music, electronic music, experimental music, and minimalist music. Newer forms of music include spectral music, and post-minimalism. Julian Skar
Julian Skar (born 1981) is a Norwegian composer and multi-media artist. Career Skar studied composition at the Norwegian Academy of Music with Asbjørn Schaathun, Rolf Wallin and Ivar Frounberg. Skar has also studied composition at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Daniel Ott and Wolfgang Heiniger, focusing on new technology and music theatre. Jan Martin Smørdal
Jan Martin Smørdal (born 14 October 1978 in Horten) is a Norwegian composer, arranger, producer and guitarist. Smørdal holds a master's degree in Jazz Performance, and composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music and has studied with Henrik Hellstenius and Lasse Thoresen. As a guitarist, Smørdal has contributed to a number of releases, both in band as well as solo settings, and has been a member of the live bands of Hanne Hukkelberg, Navyelectre and Rockettothesky (Jenny Hval). As a producer, Smørdal has worked with such performers and composers as Torgeir Vassvik, Rockettothesky, Nils Henrik Asheim and Siri Nilsen. Smørdal has contributed to a number of releases that have been bestowed with a Spellemannprisen Award. Magnus Loddgard
Magnus Loddgard (born 4 May 1979 in Trondheim) is a Norwegian conductor, pianist and vocal coach, based in Berlin. Career As a conductor, Loddgard has worked with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, The Norwegian State Opera, The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Sinfonietta, Trondheim Sinfonietta, Bodø Sinfonietta, Ensemble Ernst and the Dresdner Sinfoniker. Silje Aker Johnsen
Silje Marie Aker Johnsen is a Norwegian soprano and dancer. She is a member of Ensemble neoN, and a former member of ''Det Norske Solistkor''. As a singer she has been named ''Performer of the year'' twice by the Norwegian Society of Composers: individually in 2013, and with Ensemble neoN in 2017. With Ensemble neoN she was also awarded '' Spellemannprisen'' in 2016. Early life and education Silje Aker Johnsen hails from Tønsberg, and holds a PhD degree from the Opera Academy at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Style Aker Johnsen is a classically trained singer, and has also worked as a contemporary dancer, in the Polish Dance Theatre. Norwegian Society Of Composers
The Norwegian Society of Composers ( no, Norsk Komponistforening) was founded in 1917. The Society's main objectives are to promote its members' music and secure their rights. As of today the Society counts 185 members who meet regularly for discussions and seminars. The Society works towards creating opportunities for the dissemination of contemporary music and for increasing public awareness of this art form. Contemporary music is promoted via several channels, including the society's record label Aurora, and through collaboration with concert producers and festivals. Spellemannprisen, often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Awards in English, is a Norwegian music award presented to Norwegian musicians. The award was established by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. First awarded in 1973, the prize honours musicians from the previous year; it is still awarded annually, usually in January or February. The Spellemann committee, composed of members of IFPI Norway and FONO, manages the award and acts as the judge. 21 categories are currently awarded, in addition to other honorary and industry awards the committee may give. Susanna Karolina Wallumrød (born 23 June 1979 in Kongsberg, Norway) is a Norwegian vocalist, known for her low key original songs. She is the sister of the drummer Fredrik Wallumrød and the pianist Christian Wallumrød, cousin of the pianist David Wallumrød, and is married to the music producer Helge Sten. Pauline Margrete Hall (2 August 1890 – 24 January 1969) was a Norwegian composer and music critic. She was the founding chairwoman of Ny Musikk (1938–1961) and served as president of the International Society for Contemporary Music (1952–1953). Background Pauline Hall was born at Hamar in Hedmark, Norway. She was the daughter of Isak Muus Hall (1849–1914) and Magdalena Catharina Agersborg (1854–1934).
