Enrique Antía
Enrique Andrés Antía Behrens (born November 30, 1949) is a Uruguayan agricultural engineer and politician of the National Party (PN), serving as Intendant of Maldonado since November 26, 2020. Graduated from the University of the Republic, he has an agricultural engineering degree. He served as an Extension Technician for the National Milk Producers Cooperative (Conaprole) in the departments of Maldonado and Rocha for twenty years. Family Born in Maldonado as the son of the architect Enrique Antía Arlo and Consuelo Behrens Muñoz, Antía is the first cousin of the former Minister of Transport and Public Works, Lucio Cáceres Behrens, on his maternal side, and his mother is the first cousin of the well-known actress China Zorrilla. Senate Of Uruguay
The Chamber of Senators of Uruguay (''Cámara de Senadores de Uruguay''), or Senate, is the upper house of the General Assembly of Uruguay (''Asamblea General del Uruguay''). It has 30 members, elected for a five-year term by proportional representation; the Vice-president presides over the chamber's sessions. The composition and powers of the Senate are established by Article Ninety-eight of the Uruguayan Constitution. It also requires that the senators must be at least 30 years old and have been Uruguayan citizens for seven years. Broad Front (Uruguay)
The Broad Front ( es, Frente Amplio, FA) is a left-wing political coalition from Uruguay. It was the ruling party of Uruguay from 2005 to 2020 and has produced two presidents: José Mujica (2010–2015) and Tabaré Vázquez (2005–2010; 2015–2020). Since 1999, it has been the largest party in Uruguay's General Assembly. History Frente Amplio was founded as a coalition of more than a dozen fractured leftist parties and movements in 1971. An intendant (; pt, intendente ; es, intendente ) was, and sometimes still is, a public official, especially in France, Spain, Portugal, and Latin America. The intendancy system was a centralizing administrative system developed in France. 2020 Uruguayan Municipal Elections
Uruguay held local government elections on September 27, 2020, to elect the ''intendente'' of the 19 departments that are the administrative divisions of Uruguay, as well as 31 councilors; and a mayor and four councilors for each of the municipalities. Across the country, 19 intendants, 589 ediles, 125 mayors and 500 councilors will be elected. This will be the second time that both ''intendentes'' and ''alcaldes'' are elected simultaneously. 2019 Uruguayan General Election
General elections were held in Uruguay on Sunday, 27 October 2019 to elect the President and General Assembly. As no presidential candidate received a majority in the first round of voting, a runoff election took place on 24 November. In the 2014 elections, the left-wing Broad Front had won a third consecutive election with absolute majorities in both houses of the General Assembly. The Broad Front's term in office еarned support through the creation of a large welfare system, but at the same time was undermined by an increasing budget deficit, along with rising unemployment and a spike in violence. The election campaign focused primarily around the issue of crime, with each party proposing different solutions. Luis Alberto Aparicio Alejandro Lacalle Pou (; ''Luis Lacalle'' locally or ; born 10 August 1973) is a Uruguayan politician and lawyer serving as President of Uruguay since 1 March 2020. Son of former president Luis Alberto Lacalle, Lacalle Pou attended The British Schools of Montevideo and graduated from Catholic University of Uruguay in 1998 with a law degree.
