Enoch A. Curtis
Enoch A. Curtis (1836–1907) was an American architect practicing in Fredonia, New York during the nineteenth century. Life and career Enoch Arnold Curtis was born July 19, 1836, in Busti, New York to Isaac Curtis, a farmer, and Susan (Hunter) Curtis. He was raised on the farm, educated in the academy at Jamestown, New York, Jamestown, and trained as a carpenter. In 1862 he enlisted in the 112th New York Infantry Regiment of the Union Army and was commissioned a captain. He was heavily injured during the Battle of Cold Harbor in 1864, and was honorably discharged due to his wounds. He settled in Fredonia, and while recovering he ran a hardware business and took up the study of architecture."Major Enoch A. Busti, New York
Busti ( ) is a town in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 7,521 at the 2020 census. The town is named after Paul Busti, an official of the Holland Land Company, but its pronunciation uses a long i sound at the end, a frequent alteration in the names of several upstate New York towns. It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. The town of Busti is located at the south end of Chautauqua Lake, southwest of Jamestown. History Settlement began ''circa'' 1811. The town of Busti was founded in 1823 from parts of the towns of Harmony and Ellicott. In 1900, the population was 2,192. Laona, New York
Laona is a hamlet in Chautauqua County, New York, United States, near the village of Fredonia. It is part of the town of Pomfret and New York State Route 60 passes through the hamlet. Laona is at an elevation of above sea level. Laona has been an area of importance to Spiritualist groups since the mid-19th century. Spiritualism began there in the winter of 1844-45 and over the next several years, a number of mediums converged there.
