Enno Cheng
Enno Cheng () is a Taiwanese indie singer-songwriter who is also an author and a film actress. She is currently part of the band Chocolate Tiger (猛虎巧克力) in addition to performing and releasing albums solo. She is the daughter of film director Cheng Wen-tang, who she often collaborates with by writing screenplays and film scores as well as performing in his films. Career She attended Tamkang University and majored in Chinese, but took a leave of absence in 2007. She first appeared in the film industry in 2007 in the film '' Summer's Tail'', where she portrayed the main character Yvette Chang. She also composed and wrote for the film. Her performance was praised in ''The Hollywood Reporter'' although the film itself was panned. She was also nominated for the Best New Performer award at the 44th Golden Horse Awards for her role. Zheng or zhèng ( Hanyu Pinyin) or Cheng ( Wade-Giles) () is a Chinese surname and also the name of an ancient state in today's Henan province. Same-sex marriage in Taiwan became legal on 24 May 2019, making Taiwan the first state in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. On 24 May 2017, the Constitutional Court of the Judicial Yuan ruled that the existing law which only defined marriage as between a man and a woman was unconstitutional, and that the constitutional right to equality and freedom of marriage guarantees same-sex couples the right to marry under the Constitution of the Republic of China. Tsai Ing-wen
Tsai Ing-wen (; born 31 August 1956) is a Taiwanese politician serving as president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) since 2016. A member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Tsai is the first female president of Taiwan. She served as chair of the DPP from 2020 to 2022, and also previously from 2008 to 2012 and 2014 to 2018. Tsai grew up in Taipei and studied law and international trade, and later became a law professor at Soochow University School of Law and National Chengchi University after earning an LLB from National Taiwan University and an LLM from Cornell Law School. Chthonic (band)
Chthonic (sometimes typeset ChthoniC or ChThoniC) is a Taiwanese heavy metal band, formed in 1995 in Taipei. They have been called "the Black Sabbath of Asia." The group incorporates influences from traditional Taiwanese music, including adaptations of folk songs and the use of traditional instruments, most notably the erhu (often called the ''hiân-á'' [] in the band's native Taiwanese Hokkien). Their stated goal is to use their music to bring ancient history and mythology into the modern era especially to build awareness of the myths of Taiwan and tragic events in that country's history (for example, those experienced by the Seediq people). Fire Ex. () is a punk rock band from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, founded in 2000, which sings in both Taiwanese Hokkien and Mandarin Chinese. The group consists of Sam (vocals), Orio (guitar), Pipi (bass), and KG (drums). The band is known for their social activism supporting Taiwanese independence and same-sex marriage. During the Sunflower Student Movement in 2014, student activists occupying the Legislative Yuan frequently played their song "Goodnight, Taiwan" and asked them to write a new song for the movement.
