Enjoy Contemporary Art Space is a contemporary art space in Cuba Street arts area of Wellington, New Zealand. Commonly known as 'Enjoy', the gallery was founded in 2000 by artists Ciaran Begley, Ros Cameron and Rachel Smithies as an artist-run space An artist-run space or artist-run centre (Canada) is a gallery or other facility operated or directed by artists, frequently circumventing the structures of public art centers, museums, or commercial galleries and allowing for a more experimental .... Today, Enjoy operates as a not-for-profit contemporary art space, presenting exhibitions, publications, public programmes and residencies by emerging and mid-career artists. In addition to staging exhibitions, Enjoy regularly publishes critical writing online as well as printed exhibition catalogues and art related publications. Wellington
Wellington ( mi, Te Whanganui-a-Tara or ) is the capital city of New Zealand. It is located at the south-western tip of the North Island, between Cook Strait and the Remutaka Range. Erena Baker
Erena Baker is a New Zealand visual artist of Ngāti Toa Rangatira Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai and Te Āti Awa descent. Baker uses photography to explore ideas of commemoration and remembrance within Te ao Māori. She is also a member of Mata Aho Collective, a group of four artists known for their large-scale art works. As part of the collective their work has been exhibited internationally at the Royal Academy of Arts and the National Gallery of Canada. Education In 2009, Baker graduated with a Masters of Māori Visual Arts from Toioho ki Āpiti School of Māori Studies at Massey University. Her thesis was on the importance of photography in Māori culture. She now works within the school as a lecturer and is based in Palmerston North. Maiangi Waitai
Maiangi Waitai is a New Zealand-born artist of Ngā Wairiki, Ngāti Apa, Tuwhāretoa, Rangitāne and German descent. She works across a range of mediums, designing clothing and accessories for her Who is Dead Martin label, creating comics, figurines, toys, jewellery, mosaics and painting. She has also been a musician, singing and playing the flute and guitar in a band called Beam (1997-1999) with Colleen Lenihan, Guy Scoullar and Hayden Fritchley, also artists at the time in Whanganui. Ruth Cleland
Ruth Cleland (born 1976) is a New Zealand artist, based in Auckland. Her works are held in the collection of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Cleland is known for her photo-realist paintings and pencil drawings of suburban landscapes, and her abstract grid works. Cleland lives in Auckland with her husband and fellow photo-realistic artist Gary McMillan. Biography Cleland was born in Hamilton in 1976 and raised in Gordonton. In 1998 she gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Dunedin School of Art, Otago Polytechnic, and completed her Master of Fine Arts in 2002. It was at the Dunedin School of Art where she met Gary McMillan, also from the Waikato. Sonya Lacey (born December 1976) is a New Zealand artist based in Wellington. She works with a range of mediums including performance, video and installation. Her works are in the collection of the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. Early life Lacey was born in 1976 in Hastings, New Zealand. Education Lacey graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland with a MFA in 2007. Career Lacey's artistic works demonstrate an interest in forms of communication. Tiffany Singh (born 1978) is a New Zealand artist. Background Singh was born in 1978 in Auckland, New Zealand and is of Indian and Pacific descent. She graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2008. Career Singh is an installation artist that explores community outreach and cultural preservation. Her work, ''Fly Me Up To Where You Are,'' received an award in 2013 from the Human rights commission, Human Rights Commission. Eugenia Raskopoulos
Eugenia Raskopoulos (born 1959) is a contemporary artist notable for her photographic and video work critiquing language, processes of translation, and the body. Raskopoulos' work has been shown in numerous Australian and International exhibitions, and was the winner of the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Award for her work ''Vestiges #3'', 2010. Raskopoulos was born in the Czech Republic. She migrated back to Greece in 1959 with her family, then to Australia in 1963. Informed by the migrant experience, her works explore aspects of ‘otherness’, and she situates her work at the margins of photography and video, an interdisciplinary zone that synthesises performance, transcription, neon and installation. Liyen Chong
Liyen Chong (born 1979) is a New Zealand artist of Chinese-Malaysian descent. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Christchurch Art Gallery, the University of Canterbury and the National Gallery of Australia. Biography Chong grew up in Malaysia and China, and migrated to New Zealand in her mid-teens. She completed a master's degree in fine arts at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts in Christchurch in 2003. In 2005, she moved to Auckland. Ronnie van Hout (born 22 January 1962) is a New Zealand artist, living in Melbourne, Australia. He works across a wide variety of media including sculpture, video, painting, photography, embroidery, and sound recordings. Louise Menzies (born 1981) is a New Zealand artist based in Auckland. Her works are held in the Auckland Art Gallery collection.
