English Championship (golf)
The English Championship was a professional golf tournament held 6–9 August 2020 at Hanbury Manor Golf Club in Thundridge, near Ware, Hertfordshire, England. The tournament was intended to be a one-off event and was the third leg of a six-week "UK swing" on the European Tour during the 2020 season. The UK swing was created as part of sweeping changes to the tour's schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the tournament, American John Catlin became the first player to be withdrawn from a tournament due to violating the tour's health measures. Andy Sullivan won the tournament and achieved a new European Tour scoring record at the time, with an aggregate of 257 over 72 holes, beating the old record of 258, shared by David Llewellyn and Ian Woosnam, who achieved their records in 1988 and 1990 respectively. Ware, Hertfordshire
Ware is a town in Hertfordshire, England close to the county town of Hertford. It is also a civil parishes in England, civil parish in East Hertfordshire district. Location The town lies on the north–south A10 road (Great Britain), A10 road which is partly shared with the east–west A414 road, A414 (for Hertford to the west and Harlow to the east). Adrián Otaegui
} Adrián Otaegui Jaúregui (born 21 November 1992) is a Spanish professional golfer from San Sebastián who currently plays on the European Tour and also the LIV Golf Invitational Series. He has won four times on the European Tour. Garrick Higgo
Garrick Higgo (born 12 May 1999) is a South African professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour, European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. He has won three times on the European Tour, winning the 2020 Open de Portugal and the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open as well as the Canary Islands Championship in 2021. He won his first PGA Tour title in his second start, at the Palmetto Championship. Ian Woosnam
Ian Harold Woosnam (born 2 March 1958) is a Welsh professional golfer. Nicknamed 'Woosie', Woosnam was one of the "Big Five" generation of European golfers, all born within 12 months of one another, all of whom have won majors, and made Europe competitive in the Ryder Cup. His peers in this group were Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, and Sandy Lyle. Woosnam's major championship win was at the 1991 Masters Tournament. David Llewellyn (golfer)
David John Llewellyn (born 18 November 1951) is a Welsh professional golfer. Llewellyn played on the European Tour in the 1970s after being named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year in 1971. He achieved a personal best ranking of 39th on the Order or Merit in 1974, but did not win any tournaments in this period. After a spell as a club professional at Craythorne Golf Centre (1975–78), Royal Malta Golf Club (1978–81) and Thirsk and Northallerton Golf Club (1982–84), he returned to tournament golf in 1984, and collected several tournament victories during the following years. John Catlin (golfer)
John Catlin (born November 15, 1990) is an American professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and the Asian Tour. He has won three times on the European Tour and has also won four times on the Asian Tour. Amateur career Catlin was born and grew up in Sacramento, California, United States. He picked up the game from an early age and found a lot of success as an amateur, winning consecutive NCGA State Match Play Championships in 2010 and 2011, and Memorial Amateur Championships in 2011 and 2012. Catlin then went on to play for the University of New Mexico where he was an Academic All-American and an honorable mention NCAA All-American in 2012. 2020 European Tour
The 2020 European Tour was the 49th season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972 and the 12th edition of the Race to Dubai. The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the season, with many tournaments being rescheduled or cancelled. All four major championships were affected; The Open Championship was cancelled, and the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open and PGA Championship were moved to dates much later in the year. Hanbury Manor, centred on the multi-wing Hanbury Manor Hotel, is a converted late-Victorian country house and adjoining golf course in Thundridge, north of Ware, Hertfordshire, some north of Greater London. Thundridge is a village and civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district, in the county of Hertfordshire, England. It is about two miles away from the town of Ware and about seven miles away from the large town of Hertford, the county town of Hertfordshire.
