England Men's National Lacrosse Team
The England men's national lacrosse team is one of the premier national teams in Europe and the world having competed at every World Lacrosse Championship since its inception in 1967 and having won all but one of the European Lacrosse Championships. Currently the team is ranked 5th in the world. The team is governed by England Lacrosse which has been a full member of World Lacrosse since 1972. History The England men's national team has played in every World Lacrosse Championship since 1967, earning a silver medal in 1974. The last world championship to be held in England was the 2010 World Lacrosse Championship, in Manchester, England, where they placed 5th. Stockport Lacrosse Club is a lacrosse club based in Davenport, Greater Manchester, a suburb of Stockport. The club was established in 1876 and is the oldest lacrosse club in England. Brooklands Lacrosse Club
Brooklands was a motor racing circuit and aerodrome built near Weybridge in Surrey, England, United Kingdom. It opened in 1907 and was the world's first purpose-built 'banked' motor racing circuit as well as one of Britain's first airfields, which also became Britain's largest aircraft manufacturing centre by 1918, producing military aircraft such as the Wellington and civil airliners like the Viscount and VC-10. Poynton Lacrosse Club
Poynton is a town in Cheshire, England, on the easternmost fringe of the Cheshire Plain, south-east of Manchester, north of Macclesfield and south of Stockport. Poynton has formed part of the Cheshire East unitary authority since the abolition of the Borough of Macclesfield in 2009. The first mention of the manor of Poynton was in 1289. Coal was mined in Poynton from the 16th century and the collieries, under the ownership of the Lords Vernon from 1832 until their closure in 1935, were the largest in Cheshire. 2018 World Lacrosse Championship
The 2018 World Lacrosse Championship was the 13th edition of the international men's field lacrosse tournament for national teams organized by the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL). As many as 50 countries were expected to compete in the tournament; with the official total coming in at 46, which made the 2018 WLC the largest of all-time. The games were held in Netanya, Israel on 12–21 July 2018. The United States won the tournament, its 10th championship in the history of the event. Hosting Manchester, England was originally selected to host the tournament, but withdrew in May 2017. Instead, the championships took place in Netanya, Israel between 12 and 21 July 2018. 2010 World Lacrosse Championship
The 2010 World Lacrosse Championship was held between 15–24 July. This international men's field lacrosse tournament organized by the Federation of International Lacrosse took place in Manchester, United Kingdom. This was the third time that the tournament was played in Greater Manchester, after the 1978 and 1994 championships. The United States captured their ninth gold medal, defeating Canada 12–10 in the championship game. Paul Rabil of Team USA was named tournament MVP. Australia earned its fourth-straight bronze medal by defeating Japan 16 –9. A record 29 nations competed at the event, eight more than the 2006 WLC in London, Ontario. World Lacrosse (WL), formerly the Federation of International Lacrosse, is the international governing body of lacrosse, responsible for the men's, women's, and indoor versions of the sport.
