''England Is a Garden'' is a studio album by British indie rock band Cornershop. It was released on 6 March 2020 under the band's own label, Ample Play Records. The first single from the album, "No Rock: Save in Roll" was released on 26 November 2019. Critical reception ''England Is a Garden'' was met with universal acclaim reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, this release received an average score of 82, based on 10 reviews. AllMusic's Tim Sendra hailed ''England Is a Garden'' as Cornershop's "most cohesive and powerful record yet, full of songs that have a hearty punch to go along with their typically sharp hooks". Cornershop are a British indie rock band best known for their single "Brimful of Asha", originally released in 1997 and, in a remixed version, topping the UK chart in 1998. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population.
