Endavant
Endavant–Organització Socialista d'Alliberament Nacional (in Catalan: ''Forward–Socialist Organisation of National Liberation'', Endavant (OSAN); commonly referred to only as Endavant) is an independentist, socialist and feminist Spanish political party in the Catalan Countries. Endavant was formed in July 2000, as a refoundation of the Platform for the Unity of Action, with the support of independents and local collectives. Endavant supports and is part of the Popular Unity Candidates (CUP). Ideology and tactics In addition to claiming the independence of the Catalan Countries, Endavant has prioritised working within the social movements and in the struggles of the Catalan anti-capitalist left like combating job insecurity, participated in the campaign against the European Constitution, following the referendum in February 2005, criticising the project for its neoliberal social aspects and the lack of recognition of the Catalan national rights. The Popular Unity Candidacy ( ca, Candidatura d'Unitat Popular, , CUP) is a left-wing to far-left pro-Catalan independence political party active primarily in Catalonia, where it has political representation, but also in other autonomous communities in Spain it considers to be part of the Catalan Countries. The CUP traditionally has focused on municipal politics, and is made up of a series of autonomous candidatures that run in local elections. Its presence is strongest within the contemporary Catalonia autonomous community. In 2012, the CUP decided for the first time to run for Catalan parliamentary elections, gaining 3 MPs out of 135. Platform For The Unity Of Action
The Platform for the Unity of Action (Catalan: ''Plataforma per la Unitat d'Acció'', PUA) was an independentist organisation active between 1995 and 2000. The PUA was created by ex-members of People's Unity Assembly, the Maulets, different local political organisations and Catalunya Lliure. One of the main reasons the PUA was formed was to oppose the approaching of a sector of the Catalan independentist left to the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC). The following years the PUA experienced a big growth, based on local groups, formed mostly by young people, and participated in the social movements of the late 90s, like the movement against temporary employment or the ''Okupa'' (political squatting movement). Catalan Independence
The Catalan independence movement ( ca, independentisme català; Spanish: ''independentismo catalán'') is a social and political movement (with roots in Catalan nationalism) which seeks the independence of Catalonia from Spain. The beginnings of separatism in Catalonia can be traced back to regionalist and nationalist movements of the mid–19th century, influenced by romantic ideas widespread in Europe at the time. Catalan People
Catalans (Catalan, French and Occitan: ''catalans''; es, catalanes, Italian: ''catalani'', sc, cadelanos) are a Romance ethnic group native to Catalonia, who speak Catalan. European Constitution
The Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe (TCE; commonly referred to as the European Constitution or as the Constitutional Treaty) was an unratified international treaty intended to create a consolidated constitution for the European Union (EU). It would have replaced the existing European Union treaties with a single text, given legal force to the Charter of Fundamental Rights, and expanded qualified majority voting into policy areas which had previously been decided by unanimity among member states. Catalanism
Catalan nationalism is the ideology asserting that the Catalans are a distinct nation. Intellectually, modern Catalan nationalism can be said to have commenced as a political philosophy in the unsuccessful attempts to establish a federal state in Spain in the context of the First Republic (1873-1874). Valentí Almirall i Llozer and other intellectuals that participated in this process set up a new political ideology in the 19th century, to restore self-government, as well as to obtain recognition for the Catalan language.
