Enda Rowland
Enda Rowland (born 1995) is an Irish hurler who plays for Laois Senior Championship club Abbeyleix and is the captain of the Laois senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a goalkeeper. Playing career Heywood Community School Rowland first came to prominence as a hurler with Heywood Community School. He played in every grade of hurling before eventually joining the college's senior hurling team and enjoyed several Leinster Championship successes. Institute of Technology, Carlow During his studies at the Institute of Technology, Carlow, Rowland was selected in goal for the college's senior hurling team. On 25 February 2017, he was in goal when IT Carlow suffered a 3-24 to 1-19 defeat by Mary Immaculate College in the Fitzgibbon Cup final. Abbeyleix GAA
Abbeyleix St Lazerians is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Abbeyleix, County Laois, Ireland. The club grounds are called Fr Breen Park and the club colours are Primrose and Blue. History The club plays at senior level in hurling and has also won eight Laois Senior Football Championship titles, last of which came in 1919. Hurling is the main game in the club and Abbeyleix holds 8 Laois Senior Hurling Championship titles, the last of which came in 1949. In 2006, a number of Abbeyleix players were part of the Ballyroan Gaels squad that won the Laois Senior Football Championship. Ballyroan Gaels was an amalgamation of the two neighbouring clubs, Abbeyleix and Ballyroan. Abbeyleix won the 2007 Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship and returned to the senior grade in 2008. The Carlow County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Ceatharlach) or Carlow GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Carlow and the Carlow county teams. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Scotland National Shinty Team
The Scotland national shinty team is the team selected to represent Scotland and the sport of shinty in the annual composite rules Shinty/Hurling International Series against the Ireland national hurling team. Ireland National Hurling Team
The Ireland national hurling team, consisting solely of hurlers, is a representative team for Ireland (both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) in the sport of composite rules shinty–hurling. The team is usually made up of a mixture of high-profile hurlers who compete in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship as well as lesser-known players who play for smaller counties which traditionally compete in the Christy Ring and Nicky Rackard Cups. At present the only team it plays is the Scotland national shinty team, on an annual basis in the Shinty–Hurling International Series. Ireland have won 7 of 12 series played at men's senior level. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association. 2019 Joe McDonagh Cup
The 2019 Joe McDonagh Cup was the second staging of the Joe McDonagh Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2018. The fixtures were announced on 11 October 2018. The competition began on 11 May 2019 and ended on 30 June 2019. On 30 June 2019, Laois won the Joe McDonagh Cup following a 3-26 to 1-21 defeat of Westmeath in the final at Croke Park.
