''Encounters'' is the fourth short story anthology published by the Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild. Printed in 2004 and edited by Maxine McArthur and Donna Maree Hanson, it contains stories from several Australian speculative fiction authors. ''Elsewhere: An Anthology of Incredible Places'' is the third short story anthology published by the Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild. Printed in 2003 and edited by Michael Barry, it contains stories from several Australian speculative fiction authors. Background ''Elsewhere'' was first published in Australia in October 2003 by CSFG Publishing. It was a short-list nominee for the 2004 Ditmar Award for best collected work but lost to ''Agog! Terrific Tales'', edited by Cat Sparks. ''Elsewhere'' features 26 stories by 26 authors, with two of the stories featured receiving nominations. ''Nor of Human: An Anthology of Fantastic Creatures'' is the first short story anthology published by the Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild. Printed in 2001 under and edited by Geoffrey Maloney, it contains stories from several Australian speculative fiction authors. The anthology was one of the first projects the newly founded CSFG embarked on, as a way to provide a focus for members' activities and as a showcase for their work. The theme of "fantastic creatures" was inspired by a guest speaker at one of the Guild meetings, the Australian cryptozoologist known as "Tim the Yowie Man", and two of the anthology stories feature yowies (a creature roughly comparable to the American Bigfoot). The book was launched by SF writer Jack Dann. Nigel Read is a retired lightweight rower who competed for Great Britain. Rowing career Read was part of the lightweight eight that secured a bronze medal at the 1975 World Rowing Championships. Gillian Polack
Gillian Polack (born April 1961) is an Australian writer and editor. She is a Medievalist and works with writers on history in fiction, also writing and editing mainly in the field of speculative fiction. She has published ten novels, numerous short stories and nonfiction articles, and is the creator of the New Ceres universe. Life Gillian Polack was born in Melbourne. She went to local state schools. She attended Melbourne University and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) in History, with the Margaret Kiddle and Felix Raab Prizes. She did her Master of Arts at the Centre for Medieval Studies (University of Toronto) and submitted her thesis for Doctor of Philosophy in History at the University of Sydney. She later took out teaching qualifications at the University of New England and a Doctor of Philosophy in Creative Writing at the University of Western Australia. Cat Sparks
Catriona (Cat) Sparks (born 11 September 1965, Sydney, New South Wales) is an Australian science fiction writer, editor and publisher. Publishing As manager and editor of Agog! Press with her partner, Australian horror writer Rob Hood, Sparks has produced ten anthologies of speculative fiction. Writing She has won thirteen Ditmar Awards for writing, editing and artwork, her most recent in 2014, when her short story ''Scarp'' was awarded a Ditmar for Best Short Story and 'The Bride Price' one for Best Collected Work. She was nominated for the Aurealis Peter McNamara Convenors' Award for Excellence in 2003 and won one in 2004 for services to the Australian SF publishing industry. In 2006 Sparks was convenor of the Horror judging panel of the Aurealis Awards, and in 2008 she was Guest of Honour at the Conflux 5 Science Fiction Convention in Canberra.
