Daniel Tinayre
Daniel Tinayre (14 September 1910 – 24 October 1994) was a French-born Argentine film director, screenwriter and film producer. Moving to Buenos Aires at a young age, Tinayre directed some 23 films between 1934 and 1974, directing films such as the 1947 thriller ''A sangre fría'' (In Cold Blood) which starred actors such as Amelia Bence and Tito Alonso. He was also an acclaimed screenwriter and producer simultaneously contributing in these areas to the films he directed in Argentine cinema. In 1949 he directed ''Dance of Fire (film), Dance of Fire'', which was later entered into the 1951 Cannes Film Festival. ''En la ardiente oscuridad'' (''In the Burning Darkness'') is a play by Antonio Buero Vallejo, written in 1947, which made its debut in The Teatro María Guerrero in Madrid on 1 December 1950. A film of the same name was produced in 1958. Synopsis The play centers around Ignacio, who is admitted to an institute for the blind, managed by Don Pablo. Everything there is so perfectly arranged that the students do not mind the fact that they cannot see. Ignacio, however, always refuses to accept his blindness and struggles to find his way around. He meets a group of blind people there who appear to be happy, but his sense of dissatisfaction at losing the most marvelous of the senses is contagious and spreads through the group. Antonio Buero Vallejo (September 29, 1916 – April 29, 2000) was a Spanish playwright associated with the Generation of '36 movement and considered the most important Spanish dramatist of the Spanish Civil War. Biography During his career he won three National Theatre Prizes (in 1957, 1958 and 1959), a National Theatre Prize for all his career in 1980, the National Literature Prize in 1996, and the Miguel de Cervantes Prize, Spain's highest literary honour, in 1986. From 1971 until his death he was a member of the Real Academia Española. From 1934 to 1936 Vallejo studied art and painting at San Fernando Escuela de Arte, in Madrid. During the civil war he joined the Communist Party of Spain and served as a medical aid in the Republican Army. After the war he was imprisoned for six years.
