Emporia High School is a public secondary school in Emporia, Kansas, United States. It is the sole high school operated by Emporia USD 253 school district, and serves students of grades 9 to 12. Emporia has an enrollment of approximately 1,400 students and a teaching staff of 130. The principal is Dathan Fischer. The school mascot is the Spartan and the school colors are red and black. Emporia High was established in the early 1900s in order to help educate the increasing population of Emporia. The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high school, high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. As early as 1910, Kansas schools organized the statewide Debate League and Athletic Association governed by high school principals. Emporia is a city in and the county seat of Lyon County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 24,139. Emporia lies between Topeka and Wichita at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 with Interstates 335 and 35 on the Kansas Turnpike. Emporia is also a college town, home to Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College. It is home of two annual sporting events: Unbound Gravel (gravel bicycle races) and Dynamic Discs Open (disc golf tournaments).
