"Empires (Bring Me Men)" is a song by British singer Lamya, released in 2002. It was the first single taken from her debut album ''Learning from Falling''. It is based on a poem, ''The Coming American'', commemorating the 75th anniversary of the American acquisition of the state of California, by American librarian and poet Samuel Walter Foss. Lamya Al-Mugheiry (30 October 1973 – 8 January 2009), better known as her mononym Lamya, was a Kenyan-born English singer-songwriter and record producer. She rose to fame in the early 1990s as one of the lead singers of R&B group Soul II Soul, and later as a backing singer for Duran Duran. In 2002, she released her debut album ''Learning from Falling'', which spawned the number 1 Dance chart single "Empires (Bring Me Men)". On 8 January 2009, she died from a sudden heart attack. She was recording on her second album ''Hiding in Plain Sight'', which was scheduled to be released later that year. Dillon & Dickins is a dance music production group based in London, England, and one of the many aliases used by house music producers and DJs Marc Dillon and Patrick Dickins who also founded the dance record company and music publishing company Higher State. Junior Vasquez (born Donald Gregory Mattern, August 24, 1949) is an American DJ, record producer and remixer. He has been referred to as one of the only DJs of his time to gain international attention. Career Mattern moved to New York City as a young man of 25 in 1971 with ambitions of becoming a fashion designer, briefly attending Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and working for a while as a hairdresser. Mattern soon became fascinated with NYC nightlife especially the work of DJ Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage. The album included production by Nellee Hooper and Mark Ronson and entered the Top Heatseekers chart in the United States at #16. A remix of the first single "Empires (Bring Me Men)" reached #1 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance/Club Play chart.
