Emperor Norton Records was a Los Angeles-based electronica, hip-hop, and dance-music record label. Among the artists featured on the label were Ladytron, Arling & Cameron, Money Mark, Ugly Duckling, and Fantastic Plastic Machine. Additionally, it released the soundtracks to movies including '' Lost in Translation'', '' CQ'' and ''The Virgin Suicides''. The company was named after Joshua A. Norton, a San Francisco citizen noted for proclaiming himself Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico in 1859. The company was purchased by Rykodisc in 2004 and was then acrimoniously shut down later that year, with Rykodisc inheriting its back-catalog. Stefan Altenburger (Zürich, 1968) is a Swiss visual artist who is best known as musician Golden Boy for his collaborations with Miss Kittin such as the club hit "Rippin Kittin." Career A resident of Zurich, Switzerland, Altenburger first found recognition as a visual artist, winning the 1991 Swiss Federal Prize for Design and the 1994 Swiss Federal Prize for the Arts. Felix is regarded as a member of the second wave of Chicago house Musical career Early life Stallings developed an interest in the emergent Chicago house music scene at a young age. While a student at Rich East High School in Park Forest, Illinois in the mid-1980s, a chance introduction to acid house pioneer DJ Pierre gave the then 15-year-old Stallings his break, and under the patronage and guidance of Pierre, he released his first single, "Phantasy Girl," in 1987. Fantastic Plastic Machine is the stage name of , a Japanese musician and DJ born in Kyoto, Japan. Tanaka was considered to be part of the Shibuya-kei movement. History In the late 1980s, Tanaka played as the bassist in a rock band called Margarine Strikes Back. Then in the early 1990s, Tanaka became a regular club DJ in the Kansai area, working as part of a DJ team known as Sound Impossible. While playing with Sound Impossible, his friend Towa Tei convinced Tanaka to return to recording music, and in 1997 Tanaka created his solo project Fantastic Plastic Machine under the Readymade Records (a Columbia Music Entertainment sub-label) label in Japan. Electrocute (band)
Electrocute is an American-German rock group. It was founded by Nicole Morier, a singer from Albuquerque New Mexico, and former member Mia Dime in Berlin, Germany in 2002. The formation was motivated by the explosive electropop/electroclash music scene happening in Berlin at the time. After releasing one EP and one LP on the now defunct Emperor Norton records, Dime left the band and Morier continued touring, hiring Holly Doll, from Johnson City, Tennessee, to fill in. The two toured extensively throughout Europe, America, and Australia, where they played the Big Day Out festival in 2005 and met Sydney-based DJ Mindy, a.k.a. "Legs Le Brock," who was DJing an afterparty. Morier eventually moved to Los Angeles and temporarily disbanded the band to pursue her songwriting career.
