Ningol Chakkouba
Ningol Chakkouba , also known as , is a traditional Meitei festival, celebrated on the second day of the lunar month of Hiyangei (October–November). It is a celebration of bond of love between married women and their paternal families. It is celebrated by members of the Indian diaspora in western countries, like Australia and Canada, and in many Indian cities outside Manipur, including to Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Shillong, and Silchar, Celebration Married women visit their parental homes and partake in a feast ( mni, chakkouba) with their brothers and other family members. Lemlei Ngaleima ( omp, ꯂꯦꯝꯂꯩ ꯉꯥꯂꯩꯃ, lem-lei ngaa-lei-ma, fish goddess) or Ngareima ( mni, ꯉꯥꯔꯩꯃ, ngaa-rei-ma) is the goddess and the divine female personification of the fishes and the aquatic life in Meitei mythology and religion (Sanamahism) of Ancient Manipur (Antique Kangleipak). She is a sister (or ''friend'') of the goddesses, Phouoibi, Thumleima and Ereima (Ireima). Myths Menstrual blood, charoo (hay, dried paddy stalks), hentak (edible fish paste), sumjit (broom) are considered unholy to Goddess Ngaleima. The Festival of Moirang Shai ( mni, Moirang Shai Kumhei), also known as the Seminar on Moirang Shai, is an academic and cultural annual event. The event aims to impart knowledge of the unique culture of the Meitei people at grassroots level, particularly in preserving and promoting " Moirang Shai", due to the fact that Moirang is often regarded as the origin of Meitei culture and the ''Khamba Thoibi Dance''. ''Imphal Free Press'' is an English-language daily published in Manipur, India. Alongside the Sangai Express, it is one of the two most widely read newspapers of Manipur. The two papers are known as Manipur's only "good quality" newspapers, among approximately 40 papers in the state. History The original Imphal Free Press was owned by Sapam Nishikanta. In 1996 its editor Pradip Phanjoubam walked out with the name and started a new Imphal Free Press. Phanjoubam edits and owns the new Imphal Free Press ever since.
