David Acfield Emms OBE (16 February 1925 – 21 December 2015) was an English educationalist and former rugby union player. Early life David Acfield Emms was born on 16 February 1925, the son of Archibald George Emms and Winifred Gladys Emms (née Richards). He was educated at Tonbridge School and then served during the Second World War in the Royal Artillery from 1943 until 1947. In 1947 he went on to Brasenose College, Oxford to study Modern Languages and received a BA Hons in 1950. Gail Elizabeth Emms Order of the British Empire, MBE (born 23 July 1977) is a retired English badminton player who has achieved international success in doubles tournaments. Hap Emms
Leighton Alfred Emms (January 12, 1905 – October 23, 1988) was a Canadian ice hockey player, coach, team owner, and general manager, during nearly 60 years in hockey. Emms played 17 seasons of professional hockey as a left winger and a defenceman, including 10 seasons and 320 games in the National Hockey League. After playing, Emms had a 33-year presence in the Ontario Hockey Association, as the owner of the Barrie Flyers, Niagara Falls Flyers, and St. Catharines Black Hawks between 1945 and 1978. Teams that Emms coached or owned appeared in eight Memorial Cup tournaments, winning four Memorial Cups. He was nicknamed "Happy Emms" due to the sour look on his face, which was later shortened to "Hap Emms". Robert Emms (born Robert James MacPherson; 20 May 1986) is an English film, stage and television actor, known for portraying Pythagoras in the BBC One fantasy-adventure series ''Atlantis'', and Leonid Toptunov in HBO's Miniseries ''Chernobyl''. William Emms (29 January 1930 – 18 February 1993) was an Australian schoolteacher and occasional screenwriter for British television. Writing In 1965 he wrote the ''Doctor Who'' serial ''Galaxy 4'' and later adapted the script for a Target novelisation. Winifred Emms (4 April 1883 – 28 September 1972), best known by her stage name Hetty King, was an English entertainer who performed in the music halls as a male impersonator over some 70 years. Early life She was born in New Brighton, Cheshire, where her itinerant family were living temporarily; they were usually based in Manchester. Her father, William Emms (1856–1954), was a comedian and musician who performed as Billy King and ran Uncle Billy's Minstrels, a troupe who constantly travelled around the country with a portable theatre and caravans.
