Emmet G. Lavery Jr.
Emmet Godfrey Lavery Jr. (August 10, 1927 – February 16, 2014) was an American television and film producer, attorney, and the son of the librettist, playwright, and screenwriter Emmet Lavery. Early years and law career Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, Lavery attended Williston Northampton School, served in the United States Army from 1945 until 1946, and graduated from UCLA in 1950. He earned his law degree from UCLA Law School in 1953 and was admitted to the California State Bar Association in 1954. He specialized in entertainment law, partnering with a law firm from 1954 to 1960, then operated his own office until 1963. Career as producer In 1965, Lavery became director of business affairs for 20th Century Fox Television. Two years later, he became Paramount Television's vice president of business affairs. Emmet Godfrey Lavery (November 8, 1902 – January 1, 1986) was an American playwright and screenwriter. Born in Poughkeepsie, Lavery trained as a lawyer, before devoting his career to the theatre and to film. He wrote the English libretto for Ernst Krenek's 1940 chamber opera '' Tarquin''. 1943 saw him writing for three films: * He was one of the team of 22 writers collaborating on the 1943 film ''Forever and a Day''. * He adapted Gregor Ziemer's 1943 book ''Education For Death'' for Edward Dmytryk's 1943 film ''Hitler's Children''. * He wrote the 1943 American war film ''Behind the Rising Sun'', based on the 1941 book by James R. Encino, Los Angeles
Encino (Spanish for "oak") is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. History In 1769, the Spanish Portolá expedition, first Europeans to see inland areas of California, traveled north through Sepulveda Pass into the San Fernando Valley on August 5 and stayed two nights at a native village near what is now Los Encinos State Historic Park. Fray Juan Crespi, a Franciscan missionary traveling with the expedition, named the valley "El Valle de Santa Catalina de Bolonia de Los Encinos" (The Valley of St. Catherine of Bologna of the Holm Oaks). All of Crespi's name was later dropped except "Encino". Rancho Los Encinos (''Ranch of Holm Oaks'') was established in 1845 when a large parcel of former Mission San Fernando land was granted to three Mission Indians by governor Pio Pico.
