Emmet, North Dakota
Emmet was a small rural community in McLean County, North Dakota, United States. It is about twelve miles west of Garrison.Joseph L. Emmet was in existence until at least 1966. Naming The community was founded in 1903 with the name of Robinson (not to be confused with the current Robinson, North Dakota which is in an entirely different location). It was renamed Emmet by Charles Laudenbeck when he took over as postmaster on 2 September 1905. He named it after his young son, Emmet. McLean County, North Dakota
McLean County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,771. Its county seat is Washburn. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on March 8, 1883, with areas partitioned from Burleigh, Sheridan, and (now-extinct) Stevens counties. The county was named for John A. McLean, the first mayor of Bismarck. The county organization was completed on November 1 of that year. Its boundaries were altered in 1885, in 1892, and in 1908. It has retained its current configuration since November 3, 1908, when a portion of its previous territory was partitioned to recreate Sheridan County (Sheridan had been dissolved on November 8, 1892, with its territory annexed to McLean). The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. James Alan "Jim" Kerzman (March 2, 1947 – June 20, 2015) was an American farmer, rancher, and politician. He served in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1991 to 2009. Born in Minot, North Dakota, Kerzman lived on a farm near Emmet, North Dakota and then moved with his family to another farm in Mott, North Dakota where he lived with his family.
