Emmanuel E Ikwue
Emmanuel E Ikwue (born 6 June 1940) was Nigerian Air Force's Chief of the Air Staff from 1969 to 1975. Brigadier Ikwue was the fifth Commander of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the third indigenous to hold the post. Appointed in December 1969, he was the first to hold the office designated as the Chief of Air Staff, Nigerian Air Force. Brigadier Ikwue was born on 6 June 1940 in Otukpo, Benue State. He attended the Methodist Central School Otukpo after which he proceeded to the Nigerian Military School from 1954 to 1958. He enlisted into the Nigerian Army and was sent for training as a member of Course 11, Regular Officers Special Training School Teshie, Accra, Ghana (1958 – 1959). The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) is the professional head and highest ranking military officer of the Nigerian Air Force. The position is often occupied by the most senior commissioned officer appointed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Shittu Alao
Shittu Alao (born 1937 – 15 October 1969) was Nigerian Air Force's Chief of the Air Staff from 1967 to 1969. Colonel Shittu was the fourth Commander of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the second indigenous officer to hold the post. He died on October 15, 1969, in an air crash at Uzebba, about 50 miles northwest of Benin. He was aged 32 and he was alone in the plane. Two days later, in Lagos, he was buried with full military honours. Emmanuel E Ikwue was announced as his replacement on December 18, 1969. John Nmadu Yisa-Doko
John Nmadu Yisa-Doko (born 13 February 1942 – 2 May 2012), GCON, CFR was the first Nigerian Air Force's Chief of the Air Staff from 1975 to 1980 who joined as a NAF cadet. He was amongst the first batch of pilots recruited to serve in the newly formed Nigerian Air Force, and was sent to Ethiopia for training as a pilot. He was given command over the first air platoon formed, when the German technical assistance team concluded their mission to form the Nigerian Air Force. Mons Officer Cadet School was a British military training establishment for officer cadets in Aldershot from 1942 to 1972, when it was closed and all officer training concentrated at Sandhurst. Until 1960, it was known as the Mons Officer Cadet Training Unit.
