Emmanuel Chenda
Emmanuel Tawanda Chenda (born 25 December 1952) is a Zambian politician and diplomat. He served as Member of the National Assembly for Bwana Mkubwa between 2011 and 2016. He also held the posts of Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry and Minister of Local Government and Housing between 2011 and 2015. In November 2017 he was appointed Ambassador to neighbouring Zimbabwe. Biography Chenda studied for a certificate in mediation and arbitration, a diploma in accountancy and a post-graduate diploma in development finance and worked as an accountant. In 1986 he was appointed Treasurer of Lusaka City Council, before sering as Town Clerk of Ndola between 1991 and 2001. Chenda contested the Bwana Mkubwa seat in the 2001 general elections as the Forum for Democracy and Development candidate, but was defeated by Paul Katema of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy. In 2012 the Environmental Protection portfolio was transferred to the Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection and the Early Education portfolio to the Ministry of Education (Zambia), Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education, with the department renamed the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. Paul Katema (politician)
Paul Chilufya Katema (born 23 February 1954) is a Zambian politician. He served as mayor of Ndola and as Member of the National Assembly for Bwana Mkubwa between 2002 and 2006. Biography Katema worked in marketing, and served as mayor of Ndola during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) candidate in Bwana Mkubwa in the 2001 general elections after the MMD incumbent Mathew Mulanda Mathew Sampa Mulanda (15 March 1938 – 24 February 2014) was a Zambian politician. 2016 Zambian General Election
General elections were held in Zambia on 11 August 2016 to elect the President and National Assembly. A constitutional referendum was held alongside the elections, with proposals to amend the bill of rights and Article 79. President Edgar Lungu, previously elected in January 2015 to finish the term of Michael Sata, who died in office, was re-elected for a full five-year term with a majority of the vote in the first round, defeating opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema. Lungu's Patriotic Front also won a majority in the National Assembly for the first time, winning 80 of the 156 elected seats.
