Emma Spitz
Emma Spitz (born 10 April 2000) is an Austrian professional golfer and Ladies European Tour player. In 2018, she became the first Austrian to win The R&A's Girls Amateur Championship. Amateur career Spitz enjoyed a prolific amateur career. She won the Austrian Stroke Play Championship in 2015, 2016, 2020 and 2021, and was runner up at the event in 2018 and 2019. In 2017 she was runner-up at the German Girls Open and the Austrian International Amateur, which she subsequently won in 2020. She has won the Austrian Match Play three times, and the Italian International Amateur Championship twice. She was runner up at the 2018 Slovenian Amateur Championship, and won the event in 2019. Spitz played for the National Team starting in 2013 and represented Austria at five European Girls/ Ladies Team Championship between 2015 and 2019, and at the Espirito Santo Trophy in 2016 and 2018. 2018 Summer Youth Olympics
The 2018 Summer Youth Olympics ( es, Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud de 2018), officially known as the III Summer Youth Olympic Games, and commonly known as Buenos Aires 2018, were an international sports, cultural, and educational event held from 6 to 18 October 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They were the first Youth Olympic Games held outside of Eurasia, and the first Summer Games held outside of Asia and the first to be held in the Western and Southern hemispheres. It was the second Olympic Games held in South America after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Bidding Six bids were initially submitted for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. Buenos Aires confirmed their bid in September 2011. On 13 February 2013, the IOC selected Buenos Aires as one of the three Candidate Cities for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. Junior Solheim Cup
The Junior Solheim Cup is a version of the Solheim Cup for girls aged 12 to 18. It was inaugurated in 2002. It is currently officially called the PING Junior Solheim Cup. The Junior Solheim Cup follows a similar format to The Solheim Cup and features the top 12 U.S. amateur girls—defined as girls participating in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events—versus their European counterparts. College/university golfers are ineligible to participate in the event, even if they meet the age cutoff. The event is held over two days, with six fourball and six foursomes matches on the first day, and twelve singles matches on the second day. Each event has been held in the general vicinity of that year's Solheim Cup. The United States has won 7 of the 11 contests, with Europe winning 3, while the 2011 match ended in a tie. Champions Golf Club
Champions Golf Club is a 36-hole private golf club located in Houston, Texas. Established in 1957 by multiple major champions Jack Burke Jr. and Jimmy Demaret, who were both raised in the city, Champions carries a long history for Houston golf. Burke (b.1923) won the Masters and PGA Championship in 1956 and Demaret was the first to win three Masters (1940, 1947, 1950). The Cypress Creek course was designed by Ralph Plummer and opened for play in 1959. It was the site of the 1967 Ryder Cup, 1969 U.S. Open, five PGTour Championships and the U.S. Amateur in 1993. It also hosted the Houston Champions International on the PGA Tour five times, which is now the Houston Open. World Amateur Golf Ranking
The World Amateur Golf Ranking for men was introduced by The R&A, the governing body of the sport of golf outside the United States and Mexico, on 23 January 2007. It is based on the results of over 2,600 amateur tournaments per year (and amateurs participating in certain professional events) and is updated each Wednesday. Rankings are based on the players' average performances in counting events over a rolling period. This period was 52 weeks initially but was gradually expanded during 2016 to 104 weeks, similar to those of the Official World Golf Ranking. Like the Official World Golf Ranking for male professional golfers, the amateur ranking was initiated by The R&A to provide a more reliable means of selecting an appropriate field for one of its tournaments. Isabella Holpfer
Isabella Holpfer (born 6 January 2001) is an amateur golfer from Austria. She won the Junior Vagliano Trophy in 2015 and 2017, and was a finalist in The R&A's Girls Amateur Championship in 2018 and 2019. Amateur career Holpfer was born in Vienna in 2001 to an Austrian father and a mother from Minnesota. She began competing in golf at a young age, and in 2009 in participated in the Austrian "Schüler Golf Cup U10" tournaments, eventually winning 21 events in her age group. Between 2010 and 2013 she also participated in the U.S. KidsGolf World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Holpfer joined the Austrian National Team and represented her country at the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 European Girls' Team Championships and at the 2019 and 2021 European Ladies' Team Championship. Vagliano Trophy
The Vagliano Trophy is a biennial women's amateur golf tournament. It is co-organised by The R&A and the European Golf Association and is contested by teams representing "Great Britain and Ireland" and the "Continent of Europe". It is played in odd-numbered years; the Curtis Cup being played in even-numbered years. The event started in 1931 as a match between Great Britain and France. It was played annually from 1931 to 1939 and from 1947 to 1949, before becoming a biennial event from 1949 to 1957. Britain won 15 of the 16 matches with the 1934 match being tied. From 1949 to 1957 Great Britain had also played a biennial match against Belgium. In 1959 the two matches were replaced by one with Britain playing a team representing the Continent of Europe, the Vagliano Trophy being used for the new event.
