Emma Spence
Emma Spence (born February 27, 2003) is a Canadian artistic gymnast. She represented Canada at the 2022 World Championships and won a bronze in the team event, their first team medal. She won bronze with the team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Individually she is the 2018 Youth Olympic bronze medallist on vault as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games all-around and balance beam bronze medalist. Early life Emma Spence was born in Cambridge, Ontario in 2003. She is a Franco-Ontarian whose first language is French. Her great-grandmother was sprinter Mary Vandervliet who competed at the 1932 Summer Olympics. Gymnastics career Junior 2016–2017 In 2016 Spence competed at Elite Gym Massilia. She competed on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise and did not qualify to any event finals. Gymnastics at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 16 October at the Parque Olímpico de la Juventud#Olympic Park, America Pavilion in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Qualification Summary Acrobatic Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter a maximum of 1 team of 2 athletes. As hosts, Argentina was given a team to compete, causing a reduction to the number of teams qualified from the Americas. The remaining 11 teams were to be decided at the 2018 Acrobatics World Championships. Host Argentina declined the quota while no nation from Oceania competed. The United States declined the quota, and thus the two places were reallocated to Asia and Europe. Giorgia Villa (born 23 February 2003) is an Italian artistic gymnast. She was a member of the historic team that won bronze at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, and was part of the gold-winning team at both the 2022 Mediterranean Games and the 2022 European Championships. Zoé Allaire-Bourgie (born September 27, 2004) is a retired Canadian artistic gymnast and is the 2018 Junior Pan-American gold medalist on balance beam.
