Emily Petricola
Emily Petricola (born 24 April 1980) is an Australian Paralympic cyclist. She is a world record holder and gold medallist at the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships and the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Personal In 2007 at the age of 27, Petricola was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She used to teach English in a private school. She is a qualified English and humanities teacher. Cycling Petricola is classified as a C4 cyclist. In her first major international competition at the 2018 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she won the silver medal in Women's Pursuit C4 and the bronze medal in the Women's 500m Time Trial. In the Women's Pursuit C4 heats she set a world record time of 3:54.501. In 2019, she relocated from Melbourne to the Australian Cycling Team headquarters in Adelaide. C4 (classification)
C4 is a para-cycling classification. It includes people with lower limb impairments or issues with lower limb functionality. Disability groups covered by this classification include people with cerebral palsy, amputations and other lower limb impairments. The responsibility for this classification passed from the IPC to the UCI in September 2006. Definition PBS defined this classification as "Cyclists with upper or lower limb impairments and low-level neurological impairment." ''The Telegraph'' defined this classification in 2011 as "C 1–5: Athletes with cerebral palsy, limb impairments and amputations." The UCI recommends this be coded as MC4 or WC4. AIS Sports Star of the Year (later named AIS Athlete of the Year) was first established in 1983/84 with the first winner being swimmer Karen Phillips. Emmen () is a municipality and town of the province of Drenthe in the northeastern Netherlands. History A planned city, Emmen arose from several small farming and peat-harvesting communities which have dotted the province of Drenthe since the Middle Ages.
