Emily Nichols Hatch (1871- 1959) was an American painter known for her portraits and landscapes. Biography Hatch was born in 1871 in Newport, Rhode Island. She studied at the Artists and Artisans Institute, and the Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art The Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art was summer school of art in Shinnecock Hills, Long Island that existed from 1891 to 1902. The director was William Merritt Chase. The school was one of the first and most popular ''plein air'' painting sch .... In 1912 she was the recipient of the ''Macmillian portrait prize'' from the Woman's Art Club of New York. She was a member of the Pen and Brush Club, and the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, where she served as president from 1921 through 1925. The Woman's Art Club of New York was founded in New York City in 1889 and provided a means for social interaction and marketing of women's works of art. The club accepted members from the United States and abroad. In 1913, the group changed its name to the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors. Tarrytown is a village in the town of Greenburgh in Westchester County, New York. The Archives of American Art is the largest collection of primary resources documenting the history of the visual arts in the United States. More than 20 million items of original material are housed in the Archives' research centers in Washington, D.C. and New York City. As a research center within the Smithsonian Institution, the Archives houses materials related to a variety of American visual art and artists. All regions of the country and numerous eras and art movements are represented.
