Emily Kimbrough Historic District
The Emily Kimbrough Historic District is a historical neighborhood in downtown Muncie, Indiana, USA. Established as a Muncie local historical district in 1976, it was eventually added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1980. The district is bounded by Monroe, East Washington, Hackley and East Charles Streets. The boundaries were later increased to roughly East Gilbert, Beacon Street, East Charles Street and Madison Street on June 29, 1989. History The district was named after the author and journalist Emily Kimbrough, who spent much of her childhood there. Her former home, located at 715 East Washington, is still standing. Cathy Day
Cathy Day is an American novelist, short story writer, and English professor. She is the author of the linked story collection, '' The Circus in Winter'' ( Harcourt, 2004), and a memoir, ''Comeback Season: How I Learned to Play the Game of Love'' ( Free Press, 2008). Biography Cathy Day was born in Peru, Indiana. She graduated from DePauw University in 1991 and earned her M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Alabama in 1995. Since 1997, Day has been teaching creative writing at the college level. She has taught at Minnesota State University, Mankato, The College of New Jersey, and the University of Pittsburgh. She is currently an Associate Professor at Ball State University, where she also serves as the Assistant Chair of Operations in the English Department. The Indiana Bridge Company is the oldest manufacturer in Muncie, Indiana. Established in May 1886 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the company has a rich history of building truss bridges that spans not only Indiana but throughout parts of the United States. On November of the same year, the company moved from Indianapolis to Muncie where it would remain until today. History On May 17, 1886, shortly after the discovery of natural gas, Theodore F. Rose and associates established the Indiana Bridge Company, with a capital stock of $30,000. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana the company built truss bridges. The Colonial Revival architectural style seeks to revive elements of American colonial architecture. The beginnings of the Colonial Revival style are often attributed to the Centennial Exhibition of 1876, which reawakened Americans to the architectural traditions of their colonial past.
