Emily Fares Ibrahim
Emily Fares Ibrahim (1914–2011) was an American-born Lebanese writer, poet, and feminist. She was the first woman to run for the elections in Lebanon. Also, she became a notable face of the Lebanese Social Movement. Biography Early life Emily Fares attended school in Beirut at the time where there was a great French impact, so she was vigorously presented to emblematic sentimentalism and to crafted by traditional scholars like La Fontaine, Molière, Racine and Corneille, and authors like Henry Bordeaux and Paul Bourget. Her exposition to these French writers led to her first experiences in writing to be in French. Later on, Fares' experience in Arabic writing was influenced by her uncle Felix Fares. It originated from the important literary events they attended together as well as other literary salons he held for her in her home. Mikhail Naimy
Mikha'il Nu'ayma ( ar, ميخائيل نعيمة, ; US legal name: Michael Joseph Naimy), better known in English by his pen name Mikhail Naimy (October 17, 1889 – February 28, 1988), was a Lebanese poet, novelist, and philosopher, famous for his spiritual writings, notably ''The Book of Mirdad''. He is widely recognized as one of the most important figures in modern Arabic literature and one of the most important spiritual writers of the 20th century. In 1920, Naimy re-formed the New York Pen League, along with its original founders Nasib Arida and Abd al-Masih Haddad, and other Mahjari literary figures such as Kahlil Gibran. May Elias Ziadeh ( ; ar, مي إلياس زيادة, ; 11 February 1886 – 17 October 1941) was a Lebanese people, Lebanese-Palestinians, Palestinian poet, essayist, and translator, who wrote many different works both in Arabic language, Arabic and in French language, French. After attending school in her native city Nazareth and in Lebanon, May Elias Ziadeh immigrated along with her family to Egypt in 1908, and started publishing her works in French (under the pen name Isis Copia) in 1911. Amine Nakhlé
Amine Nakhle ( ar, أمين نخلة; 25 July 1901 - 13 May 1976) was a Lebanese lawyer, editor, poet and writer. Early life and career Amin Nakhle was born in the town of Majdal Maouche, in the Chouf district on 25 July 1901. He is the son of Rashid Nakhle who wrote the Lebanese National Anthem. Amin Nakhle was schooled in Deir al-Qamar. He completed his studies at the University of Damascus (Faculty of Law) and at the French College of Beirut. A graduate in administrative law, he practiced as a lawyer and journalist from 1928 and as a journalist. He is a newspaper owner and editor. In 1947, Nakhle became the MP for Mount Lebanon. He was a member of the Arab Academy from 1967. He obtained a job in the office of the French Governor-General, but he rejected it in favor of the law firm. Jean De La Fontaine
Jean de La Fontaine (, , ; 8 July 162113 April 1695) was a French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century. He is known above all for his ''Fables'', which provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe and numerous alternative versions in France, as well as in French regional languages.
