Emile Despres
Emile Despres (21 September 1909 – 23 April 1973) served as an advisor on German Economic Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, 1944–1945. He was also a professor of economics at Williams College and Stanford University. Background Emile Despres was born on September 21, 1909, in Chicago, Illinois. His father was Emile Despres. Harry Dexter White
Harry Dexter White (October 29, 1892 – August 16, 1948) was a senior U.S. Treasury department official. Working closely with the Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau Jr., he helped set American financial policy toward the Allies of World War II. He was later accused of espionage by passing information to the Soviet Union. He was a senior American official at the 1944 Bretton Woods conference that established the postwar economic order. He dominated the conference, and his vision of post-war financial institutions mostly prevailed over those of John Maynard Keynes, the British representative who was the other main founder. Through Bretton Woods, White was a major architect of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. White was accused in 1948 of spying for the Soviet Union, which he adamantly denied. Eric Sevareid
Arnold Eric Sevareid (November 26, 1912 – July 9, 1992) was an American author and CBS news journalist from 1939 to 1977. He was one of a group of elite war correspondents who were hired by CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow and nicknamed " Murrow's Boys." Sevareid was the first to report the Fall of Paris in 1940, when the city was captured by German forces during World War II. Sevareid followed in Murrow's footsteps as a commentator on the CBS Evening News for thirteen years, for which he was recognized with Emmy and Peabody Awards. William Henry Taylor
William Henry Taylor (30 March 1906 – January 1965) was a Canadian-born U.S. Treasury economist accused by Elizabeth Bentley of having been a Soviet spy. Life Taylor, born in British Columbia, studied at the University of British Columbia and later attended school with Nathan Gregory Silvermaster at the University of California, Berkeley where he received a Ph.D. in 1933. He taught economics at the University of Hawaii for eight years and became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1940. In 1934, while living in Hawaii, Taylor visited the Soviet Union and spent several months there. Taylor secured employment within the United States Department of the Treasury through Secretary Harry Dexter White in 1941. Solomon Adler
Solomon Adler (August 6, 1909 – August 4, 1994) worked as United States Department of the Treasury, U.S. Treasury representative in China during World War II. Adler was identified by Whittaker Chambers and Elizabeth Bentley as a Soviet spy and resigned from the Treasury Department in 1950. After several years teaching at Cambridge University in England, he returned to China, where he resided from the 1960s to his death, working as a translator and economic advisor.
