James Emery House
The James Emery House, also known as Linwood Cottage, is a historic house on Main Street in Bucksport, Maine. An architecturally eclectic mix of Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, and Italianate styling, the house was built c. 1855 on a site overlooking the Penobscot River. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 for its architectural significance. Description The Emery House is sited on a rise north of Main Street, on the western fringe of the town's central business district. It is a two-story wood-frame structure, with a cross-gable roof, clapboard siding, and a granite foundation. Its main facade is divided into three major sections. The leftmost section has a front-gable roof, with broad pilasters and a polygonal projecting bay on the first floor, topped by a balustrade, with a Gothic arched window in the gable above. The Early Cape houses of Wells, Maine, are a collection of 18th-century Cape Cod (house), Cape style houses in or near the town of Wells, Maine. The town has a concentration of these houses that is unusual in the state of Maine. In the 1970s the town conducted a detailed street survey, in which 19 historically significant 18th-century Cape houses were identified either in or just outside the municipal boundaries. These buildings were subsequently listed on the National Register of Historic Places in December 1979. Background The town of Wells, Maine is located in York County, Maine, York County on the coast of southern Maine. Steward–Emery House
The Steward–Emery House is a historic house in North Anson, Maine. It is a handsome Italianate house, built c. 1870 with Colonial Revival alterations early in the 20th century. The house is most notable for the large amount of high-quality ''trompe-l'œil'' artwork on its walls, which is among the finest known domestic examples in the state. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, and was delisted in 2023. The Emery Homestead is a historic house at 1 and 3 Lebanon Street in Sanford, Maine. Its early construction dating to 1830, the building traces an evolution of use and alteration by a single family over five generations of ownership. The Smith–Emery House is a historic house at 400 Main Street in the Springvale village of Sanford, Maine. Built in 1847, it is one of Sanford's largest and finest examples of Greek Revival architecture, and was owned by two prominent local businessmen. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. Description and history The Smith–Emery House is set on the north side of Main Street, between it and Springvale's mill pond. It is a -story wood-frame structure, five bays wide, with a side-gable roof, clapboard siding, and a granite foundation. A two-story ell extends to the rear of the main block, connecting it to a barn that is offset to the right. The main (south-facing) facade is symmetrically arranged, with the entrance in a projecting gable-roofed vestibule. Emery Houses
The Emery Houses are two duplexes located at 320–322 and 326–328 West Ottawa Street in Lansing, Michigan, United States. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. The structure at 320–322 West Ottawa is significant due to its association with Populist activist Sarah E. Van De Vort Emery, a well-known public speaker and writer of the 1880s and 1890s. History The land on which these houses sit was purchased by Sarah Emery and her son Archibald in 1885. The two houses were likely built on the lots in 1888 and 1889. Archibald Emery lived in one of the units (328) from 1888 to 1894, and in 1902 sold the entire structure to W.H. Bosley. Sarah Emery and her husband Wesley lived in another unit (320) from about 1889 to about 1891. In 1891, one half of the duplex was sold, with the Emerys retaining the other half.
