Emery Homestead
The Emery Homestead is a historic house at 1 and 3 Lebanon Street in Sanford, Maine. Its early construction dating to 1830, the building traces an evolution of use and alteration by a single family over five generations of ownership. The house, a local landmark, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Description and history The Emery Homestead is set on the north side of Lebanon Street (United States Route 202), just west of its junction with Main Street ( Maine State Route 109) in the center of Sanford. It is a rambling connected New England farmstead, with its main house joined to a barn via a series of ells. The original homestead, located at the left end of the complex is a -story wood-frame structure, five bays wide, with a side-gable roof and central chimney. Sanford is a city in York County, Maine, United States. The population was 21,982 in the 2020 census, making it the seventh largest municipality in the state. Situated on the Mousam River, Sanford includes the village of Springvale. The city features many lakes in wooded areas which attract campers. Sanford is part of the Portland– South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. On November 6, 2012, Sanford voters approved a new charter to re-incorporate Sanford as a city and replace the town meeting format with a city council/mayor/strong manager form of government, along with other changes. United States Route 202
U.S. Route 202 (US 202) is a spur route of US 2. It follows a northeasterly and southwesterly direction stretching from Delaware to Maine, also traveling through the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The highway has borne the number 202 since at least 1936. Before this, sections of the highway were designated U.S. Route 122, as it intersected US 22 in New Jersey. State Route 109 (abbreviated SR 109) is a long state highway located in York County, Maine. Its southern terminus is at U.S. Route 1 and State Route 9 in Wells. Its northern terminus is at the New Hampshire border in Acton, where it connects to New Hampshire Route 109. It is a multi-state route with NH 109. NH 109 is signed as a north–south highway, but occupies a southeast-to-northwest alignment. Major towns and cities along the length of SR 109 include Wells and Sanford.
