Emer Costello
Emer Anne Costello (; born 3 September 1962) is a former Irish Labour Party politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Dublin constituency from 2012 to 2014, Lord Mayor of Dublin from 2009 to 2010 and a Dublin City Councillor for the North Inner City area from 2003 to 2012. She is from County Louth, and has a B.A. and a H.Dip. in Education from University College Dublin. She was first co-opted onto Dublin City Council as a member for the North Inner City area in 2003 to replace her husband, Joe Costello, who resigned following the end of the dual mandate. She was elected in 2004 and re-elected in June 2009. Nessa Maria Vereker Childers (born 9 October 1956) is an Irish Independent politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2009 to 2019. Early life She is the daughter of the fourth President of Ireland, Erskine H. Childers and his second wife, Rita Childers. Her paternal grandfather was Erskine Childers, a leading Irish republican and author of the espionage thriller ''The Riddle of the Sands''. She has an Arts and Psychology degree from Trinity College, Dublin and a postgraduate diploma from University College Dublin. The 2014 European Parliament election in Ireland was the Irish component of the 2014 European Parliament election and was held on Friday, 23 May 2014, on the same day as the 2014 local elections and two by-elections ( Dublin West and Longford–Westmeath). The election was conducted under the single transferable vote. Counting of the votes began on Sunday, 25 May and continued until Tuesday, 27 May. National and regional summaries In contrast to a poor local election result, Fine Gael retained 4 seats, remaining the largest Irish party at a European level. The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions.
