Embudo Creek
The Embudo Creek also known as Rio Embudo is a river formed by the confluence of the Rio Pueblo and Santa Barbara Creek near Peñasco in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. The Embudo (named after the Spanish word meaning “funnel”) empties into the Rio Grande in the community of Embudo between two distinctively shaped buttes, thus creating a funnel effect after which it is named. Rio Arriba County is a county in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, the population was 40,246. Its county seat is Tierra Amarilla. Its northern border is the Colorado state line. Embudo, New Mexico
Embudo (also Embudo Station) is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, United States. It is on New Mexico State Road 68. The Embudo Station is located south of the intersection of New Mexico State Road 75, near where the Embudo Creek (Rio Embudo) flows into the Rio Grande. Etymology The name "Embudo", meaning "funnel" in Spanish, was given to the area by early Spanish settlers because the spot where the Rio Embudo flowed between two distinctive cone shaped hills reminded them of a funnel. Embudo was founded in 1881 when the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad opened a station (depot) there on its Chili Line. Dixon, New Mexico
Dixon is an unincorporated community located in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, United States, on New Mexico State Road 75, just east of New Mexico State Road 68, in the north-central part of the state, and is approximately southwest of Taos. The elevation of Dixon is above sea level. It is on the banks of the Embudo Creek, a tributary of the Rio Grande. Embudo Creek flows into the Rio Grande downstream from Dixon.
