Wolfchant
Wolfchant is a metal band formed in St. Oswald, Germany in August 2003 by Lokhi, Gaahnt, Skaahl, and Norgahd. Wolfchant's lyrics deal with legends and folk tales from Nordic mythology. In August 2005 they signed a contract with CCP Records, managed by Caleb Murrell-Smith. With the first full-length album ''Bloody Tales of Disgraced Lands'' (2005) the band gained supra-regional respect. In February 2007 Nattulv became a member of Wolfchant after former bass guitar Gaahnt quit the band for family reasons. Nattulv was replaced by Bahznar, for their album ''Determined Damnation'', which was released in April 2009. The band made a guest appearance in the ''Aqua Teen Hunger Force'' episode "Totem Pole", which aired in 2012. Viking Metal
Viking metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by a lyrical and thematic focus on Norse mythology, Norse paganism, and the Viking Age. Viking metal is quite diverse as a musical style, to the point where some consider it more a cross-genre term than a genre, but it is typically seen as black metal with influences from Nordic folk music. Common traits include a slow-paced and heavy riffing style, anthemic choruses, use of both sung and harsh vocals, a reliance on folk instrumentation, and often the use of keyboards for atmospheric effect. Viking metal emerged from black metal during the late 1980s and early 1990s, sharing with black metal an opposition to Christianity, but rejecting Satanism and occult themes in favor of the Vikings and paganism. Pagan metal is a genre of heavy metal music which fuses extreme metal with " the pre-Christian traditions of a specific culture or region" through thematic concept, rustic melodies, unusual instruments or archaic languages, Wiederhorn 2009, p. 62. usually referring to folk metal or black metal. The Norwegian band In the Woods... was one of the first bands commonly viewed as pagan metal.
