Embeesea Kit Cars
Embeesea Kit Cars was a British kit car manufacturing company, based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, operational 1975-1983. Background Embeesea is the phonetic presentation of the initials of Michael B Carlton, who formed the business in 1975 to manufacture and market kits for the homebuilt car market. Carlton had been employed at Siva Cars, where he learned the trade of glass fibre laminating and mould-making, and where he was inspired by Neville Trickett's styling of the Siva Saluki. In 1983, Embeesea Kit Cars was incorporated into a new firm named MBC Car Company Ltd. Chepeko The Chepeko was Carlton's first project to produce a kit car that was easy to build, and reasonably practical for everyday use. High Wycombe, often referred to as Wycombe ( ), is a market town in Buckinghamshire, England. Lying in the valley of the River Wye surrounded by the Chiltern Hills, it is west-northwest of Charing Cross in London, south-southeast of Aylesbury, southeast of Oxford, northeast of Reading and north of Maidenhead. In the automotive industry, a gull-wing door, also known as a falcon-wing door or an up-door, is a car door that is hinged at the roof rather than the side, as pioneered by Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, first as a race car in 1952 ( W194), and then as a production sports car in 1954. Opening upwards, the doors evoke the image of a seagull's wings. In French, they are (butterfly doors). The papillon door was designed by Jean Bugatti for the 1939 Type 64, 14 years before Mercedes-Benz produced its similar, famous 300 SL gullwing door.
