Embassy Of Cuba, Ottawa
The Embassy of Cuba in Ottawa is the Cuban embassy in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 388 Main Street in Old Ottawa East. History Diplomatic relations between Canada and Cuba began in 1945, and were uninterrupted by the Cuban Revolution. The Cuban embassy was initially located at 690 Island Park Drive and subsequently relocated to Chapel Street in Sandy Hill. For many years the Chapel Street location was the target of repeated terrorist attacks by anti-Castro groups based in the United States. The first of these was an improvised bomb made out of bazooka shells that went off on September 22, 1966. It caused only minor damage to the embassy. The bomb blew out the embassy's windows, and those of many nearby homes and made a crater in the sidewalk. In 1968 the embassy moved into a stone manor at 700 Echo Drive in Old Ottawa South, which was the site of another unsuccessful attack in 1974. Old Ottawa East
Old Ottawa East or just Ottawa East (''Vieil Ottawa Est'' in French) is a neighbourhood in Capital Ward in central Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located south of Nicholas Street and between the Rideau Canal and the Rideau River, with Avenue Road marking the southern border. To the south is the neighbourhood of Old Ottawa South and to the northeast is Sandy Hill. Old Ottawa East includes the Lees Avenue area. The Flora Footbridge, which opened to pedestrians in 2019, connects the community to The Glebe. According to the Canada 2011 Census, the population of the neighbourhood was 7,279. This small neighbourhood was originally the suburban community of Archville that was incorporated as the village of Ottawa East in 1888. In 1907 it was amalgamated with the growing community of Ottawa.
