Embassy Of Poland, Beijing
The Polish Embassy in Beijing is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Poland to the People's Republic of China. The chancery is located at 1, Ritan Rd, Beijing. The chancery of the Polish Embassy in Beijing is located, as with many other embassies, in the special diplomatic quarter of the city. Situated behind a large and ornate screen fence, the embassy is guarded night and day by officers of the People's Armed Police. The building was originally designed in a socialist realist style, but upon construction was actually built in a largely modernist style with a few elements of classicism, notably the columns supporting the portico. This was to make the embassy more distinguishable as the permanent seat of an important European nation and not present a less 'prestigious' facade to the average passerby. Wojciech Jacek Zajączkowski (born 19 December 1963 in Bydgoszcz) is a Polish diplomat and historian. Ambassador of Poland to China (2018–2023), Russia (2010–2014), and Romania (2008–2010). Life Education Wojciech Zajączkowski graduated from history at the Catholic University of Lublin in 1987. In 1999 he defended at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences his PhD thesis on ethnic minorities in 19th-century Russia and USSR. Career Till the early 1990s he has been working as an editor. From 1991 to 1998 for the Centre for Eastern Studies as an analyst, Senate of Poland as an advisor, Stefan Batory Foundation as a director of the Central-Eastern Europe Forum. Relations between the People's Republic of China and Poland officially began on October 5, 1949. History Early contacts and approaches Contacts between Polish and Chinese people date back several centuries. In the mid-17th century, notable Polish Jesuit missionaries Michał Boym and Jan Mikołaj Smogulecki arrived to China. Boym has significantly expanded the knowledge of China in Europe with his works, among which were the pioneering botany book ''Flora Sinensis'' and detailed maps of China.
