Emanuele Gianturco
Emanuele Gianturco (1857–1907) was an Italian legal scholar and politician who held different cabinet posts, including minister of public works, minister of education and minister of justice. He was also a member of the Parliament of which he served as the vice president. Early life and education Gianturco was born in Avigliano on 20 March 1857. His father was a shoemaker. He received a degree in law from the University of Naples in July 1879. He also attended a music conservatory, Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella, there. Career Following his graduation Gianturco wanted to pursue a career in music, but it was not supported by his family. Instead, he began his career as a lawyer. He joined his alma mater as a faculty member in 1882 and became a professor of civil law there. He was promoted to the chair of the department in 1889. Giovanni Giolitti
Giovanni Giolitti (; 27 October 1842 – 17 July 1928) was an Italian statesman. He was the Prime Minister of Italy five times between 1892 and 1921. After Benito Mussolini, he is the second-longest serving Prime Minister in Italian history. A prominent leader of the Historical Left and the Liberal Union, he is widely considered one of the most powerful and important politicians in Italian history; due to his dominant position in Italian politics, Giolitti was accused by critics of being an authoritarian leader and a parliamentary dictator. Giolitti was a master in the political art of ''trasformismo'', the method of making a flexible, centrist coalition of government which isolated the extremes of the Left and the Right in Italian politics after the unification. Alessandro Longo
Alessandro Longo (31 December 1864 – 3 November 1945) was an Italian composer and musicologist. Early life Longo was born in Amantea. After studying at the Naples Conservatory under Beniamino Cesi (and composition under Paolo Serrao), he began teaching piano at his alma mater in 1887, deputizing for Cesi as pianoforte professor, and succeeded him in 1897. Career As a pianist, Longo often played in chamber ensemble with the Ferni Quartet, and with the Quartetto Napoletano (with Cantani, Parmiciano, Scarano and Viterbini). He founded various musical institutions in Naples, and gained a high reputation as a concert pianist. In 1914 he began editing the review ''L'Arte Pianistica''. He became Director of the Naples Conservatory in 1944, and died in Naples the following year, aged 80. Cesare Gianturco
Cesare Gianturco (February 12, 1905 – August 25, 1995) was an Italian-American physician and one of the earliest contributors to the specialty of interventional radiology. After many years as the radiology chief at the Carle Clinic in Illinois and a faculty member at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Gianturco moved to Houston, where he conducted research at MD Anderson Hospital. Several medical innovations bear his name, including the first coronary stent to be approved by the FDA; a wool coil that could be deployed inside blood vessels to stop bleeding; the self-expanding Z-stent; and a vena cava filter to trap blood clots in the venous system before they reached the heart.
